Get them at Walmart. $169 + 4-Year protection plan for $29.

As a bonus, use your AMEX card (if you have one) and get an additional year of warranty, for a total of 5 years that you are covered.
Best investment you can make if you own a pair, just make an appointment at the Apple Store and they take care of you on the spot, never had an issue with them denying a replacement!
for total tech members is the operative phrase there (ie. the folks who pay BB nearly $200/year for extra support and warranty coverage).

Is it still a good idea to buy the pro 2 when the 3 is right around the corner?

does anyone know if we can get a refund for the AppleCare+ if we don't want it? I recall some folks being able to do that and maybe getting $30 back somehow?

Anyone actually use the Apple care for these? If you have to jump through hoops or if a lot of reasons for replacement aren't covered, is it even worth it?
I returned AirPod Pros 4 times over 2 years until AppleCare ran out. They replaced with a brand new set without issue, but refused to replace after expiration. Each time they had a loud screeching sound, which they said is a common issue. They couldn't confirm if it was because I wear them to sleep, but one staff said that it might be because of sweat, even thought they're meant to be sweat proof... and I'm not sweaty.

4 years for $29 seems like a great deal but double check if you can return more than once. As I understand it, Walmart warranty only covers repair or replacement over the 4 years up to the original cost of the purchase. Apple however will repair or replace them as many times as needed (in my case 4 times in 2 years) so long as it turns out to be a product failure and not abuse.

Did you have to ask for the replacement? Or did they only offer it as a last resort? I bought a pair for my daughter with this same deal from Costco a few weeks ago. She told me one bud already developed some static/distortion noise. I'm thinking of returning it.
Also, did you have to pay $29 service fee?

Every AirPods or Beats product comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary technical support. AppleCare+ extends your coverage and includes unlimited incidents of accidental damage protection, each subject to a service fee of $29, plus applicable tax.1 In addition, you'll get 24/7 priority access to Apple experts via chat or phone.

YMMV, if you use *Costco same day promo code sent to you (email) it can be $30 less. Also if you can get the $100 insta-cart gift cards for $80 from Costco, https://www.costco.com/Instacart%20-%20$100%20eGift%20Card.product.1795801.html?sh=true&nf=true , thats double dip. *Active Costco membership and SameDay.Costco.com account (with valid form of payment on file) required for purchase. Valid only in the United States (excluding territories), on purchases at SameDay.Costco.com between 12:01am (PDT) 3/6/2025 and 11:59pm (PDT) 3/19/2025, and successful delivery must occur (subject to availability). Minimum $175 merchandise subtotal (after discounts and before taxes and tip) in a single transaction is required. Use code at checkout to receive the $30 instant credit before taxes, fees and tip. Promotion is only offered on SameDay.Costco.com, is not valid on prior purchases, nor redeemable for cash. Credit will be applied to the total purchase price in the same transaction for all non-alcohol and non-RX products, and excludes taxes. Promotion code may not be sold, copied, modified or transferred. Limit one promotion code per valid membership number. Costco and/or Instacart reserves the right to modify or cancel this promotion at any time. Selection and pricing may vary and is subject to availability. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. Item pricing and discounts subject to change. Delivery subject to availability. Instacart is not a retailer or seller. Costco Same-Day Powered by Instacart may not be available in all zip or postal codes. Subject to Instacart Terms of Service.
This is exactly what I did. The $30 promo code is used for a higher price via Instacart and a tip for the driver. Overall, $160 after tax, with AppleCare included, is a very good deal. Mine actually comes with 27 months of warranty until June 2027.

This is a great point, haha. One of my son's AirPods (this model) went bad a month after I bought them from CostCo. I went to an Apple Store and they told me they would have to ship them to their repair center and it would probably take weeks to get them back. The Apple guy literally said I was better off just returning them at CostCo for an exchange. And he was definitely right. Apple Care is a joke. The best part about buying them from CostCo is the CostCo warranty, not Apple Care.

All 4 times, they took them into the back and returned with a new set at no charge, saying that the AirPods are faulty and not due to my use.
Two months later, the 4th set had the same issue but it was 1 month after my warranty expired and so they refused to replace them, despite my debating that it's clearly an overall faulty product. The manager offered me a 20% discount off a new pair, and suggested I try Beats instead!
I ended up finding a solution combing accessibility settings and turning off noise cancellation that gave them another 6 months of life without screeching. If anyone's interested I can probably figure out again what those steps were, but at this point they're bust and I'm deciding what to buy next.
Before you head to the store, try cleaning the bud covers and even swapping them out. That didn't fix mine, but can be a cause too.
For $200, you'd think they'd work better than this.

You must have lucked out. I had AppleCare+ on my first pair. They only replaced with refurbs since they were part of the defective bunch. After AppleCare+ expired, I misplaced them. Find My kept telling me it was at the card room I was at. I went back looking and they were nowhere near where Find My said they were. I ended up getting a new pair during Black Friday. Then one day, I found my old pair in my backpack and one side clicks when using both.
