Two months later, the 4th set had the same issue but it was 1 month after my warranty expired and so they refused to replace them, despite my debating that it's clearly an overall faulty product. The manager offered me a 20% discount off a new pair, and suggested I try Beats instead!
I ended up finding a solution combing accessibility settings and turning off noise cancellation that gave them another 6 months of life without screeching. If anyone's interested I can probably figure out again what those steps were, but at this point they're bust and I'm deciding what to buy next.
Before you head to the store, try cleaning the bud covers and even swapping them out. That didn't fix mine, but can be a cause too.
For $200, you'd think they'd work better than this.

You must have lucked out. I had AppleCare+ on my first pair. They only replaced with refurbs since they were part of the defective bunch. After AppleCare+ expired, I misplaced them. Find My kept telling me it was at the card room I was at. I went back looking and they were nowhere near where Find My said they were. I ended up getting a new pair during Black Friday. Then one day, I found my old pair in my backpack and one side clicks when using both.
