If you are even remotely considering doing AI / LLM / video recognitions, get the M4 as NPU speed bumped up more than 100%

M3 NPU 18 TOPS
M4 NPU 38 TOPS

Other things like 2 vs 3 monitors, there are software that can "fix this issue"

The CPU and GPU on the M3 unbinned and the M4 binned down on the base MacBook Air M4 would be very similar in performance, you are not going to notice unless you're doing CineBench & GeekBench consistently.

24GB is enough for 95% of the users.

The problem is when you close the lid you need an external keyboard and mouse plus you can't use the laptop microphone. Easily worth the extra $200 to get the M4.

It's a physical limitation of the SOC so it's a hardware issue not software issue that apple can fix with an update. I agree it sucks since I'd prefer a MBA but I run 3 monitors so it wouldn't work for me. I know there are other solutions out there, but I don't like running non native settings since they'll always be buggy.
