Same - If you own the PS4 version, you can get the PS5 version for $10 on the PS Store

I never bought the PS4 version, but it was one of those free games early on in the PS5 release ("Playstation @ Home", I think? Maybe it was during covid?); this free version makes you eligible for the $10 upgrade if you claimed it back then

Wasn't the ps5 upgrade free initially? I got the ps4 physical and it installed the ps5 edition. Or is this an additional upgrade in quality?

I believe there was a free upgrade/update to the original game when played on PS5. It did things like unlock a 60fps mode when played on PS5.. but it was still essentially the PS4 version.

Remastered was a very much bigger improvement that was made for the PS5, so this ones a paid upgrade

This is correct.
The remaster essentially took the original game and brought it up to the same level that the sequel, Forbidden West, was on in terms of aesthetics.

Better off buying the ps4 version used for $8 then doing digital upgrade.

I'm currently playing through NG+ and the remastered version is quite glitchy on PS5. Lots of respawn glitches(doesn't spawn or respawns too quickly), missing structures/trees, texture/water surface glitches that keep jumping back and forth, odd cut scenes, etc. Bit of a disappointment.

I got the standard edition for free before and couldn't get into it at all. If you want to hunt dinosaur like enemies I recommend Monster Hunter Wilds instead. Robot dinos just ain't it.

I'd maybe uninstall/reinstall. I didn't run into a single glitch during my playthrough.

Loved this game. Haven't played the remaster but am considering it for $10.

My wife is getting more into games. She's played Hogwarts Legacy, Fenyx Rising, Ratchet and Clank: RA, Zelda BotW and TotK. We played It Takes Two and are playing Split Fiction. I'm thinking she might like this. She hasn't played any of this series. Is this a fine place to start or is this a sequel? With all the versions and remasters I'm having trouble telling.

This is the first installment so you'll definitely want to start here. This also includes the Frozen Wilds DLC. The learning curve of this game is rather high so I would recommend playing on Story mode to avoid frustration and quitting midway. Tell your wife to take it slow. The game is pretty massive in terms of lore, so take your time, explore and learn the world of Horizon. Very well written story.

The sequel is Horizon: Forbidden West and part 3 is in the works. Amazing series.

Blowing parts off a giant metal T Rex with explosive arrows is top tier gaming.
