These (26GB) are EXOS Enterprise drives not the crappy non-Pro Barracudas like the 20-24TB models with only 1-year warranty. Seagate doesn't make a 26TB Barracuda.

I ordered one, says it'll arrive Thursday. I'll update this post with what I find inside.

Edit: ST26000DM000 mfg date 02/2025. Seagate website indicates the serial # on the drive is a Barracuda w/ 1yr warranty. Oh well, looks like the days of discount exos are gone, and I'll be returning this one.

You realize how easy things are to return, right? If they're not exos, I'll return.

Better to buy before it's OOS than wait and miss out.
Unfortunately, my nearest Best Buy is over 50 miles away, so I'd have to return the item via mail. In my opinion, this gives Best Buy an opportunity to closely examine the enclosure to see if it has been opened, potentially denying the return. That, along with the paltry 1-year warranty, forms my rationale for not making the purchase.

On top of that, I was recently burned by this $230 20TB deal and received a Barracuda, despite everyone claiming Barracudas only go up to 18TB and that getting an Exos was virtually guaranteed. But then Seagate updated the product spec sheet to indicate that Barracudas now go up to 24TB. Perhaps there will be another underhanded update in the future as well.

Overall, $350 seems to be the retail price for these 26TB drives now, so I don't feel like I missed out on the deal of the century. In my opinion, it's not worth the trouble of returning the drive and risking denial due to opening the enclosure. The measly 1-year warranty is also unacceptable to me.

The good thing about these low-priced drives, perhaps, is that all drive prices may decrease now due to Seagate's lower pricing. I'm especially hoping the market for refurbished, used enterprise drives will be forced to lower their prices.

Is this just info printed on the box/the shell of the external drive?

I think we need to know the product code associated with the internal drive itself, to determine if it's EXOS or Barracuda. You can get this by plugging it into a PC and using CrystalDiskInfo to check. Would you mind installing CrystalDiskInfo and reporting back please?

The date of manufacture is kind of worrying. That was barracuda drives in the 24tb. Maybe they released a whole new line up to 28tb. Doing a search ST26000DM001 on the seagate website got my IP address automatically banned by them. "The action you just performed triggered the security solution."

DOM is kind of worrying, hopefully Seagate didn't start making Barracuda's above 24gb, if you shuck it, it will let the rest of us know whether to cancel the order or not Big Grin

Do you see the irony of you calling out someone for being inept at tech-related stuff, while simultaneously sending your reply to the wrong commenter on here? Hehe

Hey, before we start World Hard Drive War 3, the deal is active again [bestbuy.com], so hopefully peace will reign. Now's the chance to play the Exos vs. Barracuda lottery again—happy times indeed!

If you search this on Google you are correct that it shows a 26TB EXOS, but that's because Google found a "best match" to that "ST26000DM000" and pulled up the EXOS result with ST26000NM000C code.

The "DM" in that ST26000DM000 unfortunately is the code they are using for Barracudas. Therefore it's very likely the drives inside this external enclosure have been transitioned to a newly introduced Barracuda 26TB drive.

CTRFK8 is good at that.

Back to the relevant topic, I'm also seeing the DM in the part number to indicate a Barracuda drive.

Damn, should I cancel the order, not worth the drive to BB if it's a Barracuda.
