Ok so I'll keep it simple.

PROS:
> This is the absolute cheapest you can find a laptop with a 4070 at this point in time. This exact laptop was $50 cheaper around New Years. This is the 2nd best price I've seen for a 4070 laptop
> The AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS is one of the best laptop processors from the LAST generation of AMD laptop processors
> The iGPU is plenty capably for light gaming but more importantly there IS an iGPU. Which means good things for battery life compared to laptops which only have dGPUs
> The weight is really good for a gaming laptop at just over 5 lbs

CONS
> The screen is garbage. There is no other way to put it
> There is no second m2 slot. So if you want a bigger SSD, you're going to have to replace the existing one

IMO there are no other cons. I ordered this. I have been kicking myself for not picking this up over New Years because the prices of laptops with 4070s have just kept going up. Tariffs and general inflation means that this is more likely to be more expensive than cheaper in the future. I'm kinda bummed that the launch of the 50 series laptop GPUs did not trigger clearance prices for the ones with the 40 series like this one, but the market does what the market wants to do...
I just ordered one because the screen is the same format as the HP Omen. It can also be replaced with a NE161QHM-NY1 BOE09E5 16.1 inches 165Hz QHD 2K 2560x1440, which I'll be doing. Also, the wifi card can be upgraded.

I vaguely remember looking into this a few weeks ago for this CPU and I believe the max RAM is 64GB (just in case anyone wants to go up to that amount of memory)

That's pretty cool but won't you basically be voiding your warranty at that point?

How does this compare to the HP Omen at Costco? At a glance the Omen has a 4060, but more RAM and bigger SSD. $100 more, but also ease of Costco if there's any issues. https://www.costco.com/hp-omen-16...54146.html
You sort of said it in your question but - 4060. The bulk of the cost of these units is the GPU. So it comes down to your use case of which specs are more important for you. That said, $1000 for a 4060 seems a bit steep given the deals that have cycled through here.

My son seems doesn't care. I let him play on my desktop that uses an Alienware OLED 34 inch, he doesn't feel difference. I ended up buying him a LG (or Samsung?) 32 inch 2k gaming monitor -- about sub-200.
I was thinking of getting it for clamshell mode.. is it loud at peak load?

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Do you know if the Oled screen on the other HP 16 inch laptops will work in this Victus 16? I haven't had a chance to research that yet.

Yes and no, with respect to the Magnuson v Moss act The vendor has to prove you caused damage vs honor warranty so the new screen wouldn't be protected (unless by Amazon seller) nor would anything you may break in the install but everything else running in the laptop should still be preserved under warranty. They tried to play a game with warranty stickers and such but the system needs to be opened up for RAM upgrades and storage upgrades so that's just a manufacturer wish that you will abide.

Fan is definitely noticeable in full load. Nothing high pitch though. He uses headset anyway.
I put the laptop on top of tablet rack, helps a bit.

Is this the video that you used for the process, Or is there another guide you followed? Don't like that the guy had to crack the old screen

I'm going to order RAM. I'm thinking a single stick of 32 GB, so I can add another 32 later on. I'm assuming 64 GB works for this. Does anyone know?

I feel lucky as f***. I got an open box Corsair 17400 Vengeance desktop at BB last December for $299, I kid you not. Nobody believes this story, but an I5 13600k, 32gb DDR5 ram, 1tb SSD and what was supposed to be a RTX3070. However, it seemed to have been a floor model cuz when I opened it up, the gpu was actually a 4070 dangling by the power cord, not even hooked up to the PCIE slot. I think the 3070 died and the geek squad through a 4070 in there cuz they were out of 3070s. It's been an awesome PC since I got it. There were a lot of awesome open box deals to be had last December. That's all gone now and the prices I see now have really gone up big time since January.
