hey , i install and service garade doors for a living, if Garage door opener isnt able to lift door, that means your springs are not strong enough to lift door or not wound enough. Disconnect the motor from the door and then try to lift the door with your hands, if you are unable to or if its extremely heavy, that means your springs are not doing their job. On older motors , there is force up and force down switches, you can increase the force up since your older motor is getting weaker. But always check springs first.

There are different types of Rails for motors, so all depending what you have, but the angle iron or back hangs for the motor might not work, you might also need to change the bracket above the center pad for the spring and opener arm bracket thats connected to the top panel.

Your spring is too hard, you dont need to replace the motor. Call the guys and loosen the spring a bit and you should be fine.

You could just remove the old system and put this up, yes, everything would be included. Easy to put up, 1 person maybe an hour, will need a second person or a 2nd ladder for a few minutes partway through.
A few years back I installed one (first time) and it took me roughly 1.5 hours. After that, approx 45 min to an hour for others I have installed. Costco version appears to have a better light on motor housing and video keypad as primary differences

Came home yesterday to my garage door mechanism broken. My kids say they tried to open the door dropped. Chain looks to have broke and is hanging.

Does this have everything i need to swap things out? Does this include the full belt system to replace the chain system I have now? How easy of a swap is it? I'm a fairly handy person.

Also how does this compare to this one at Costco for $200? https://www.costco.com/chamberlai...57754.html

Thank you
I suspect that the spring broke and that's what caused the chain to break.

Check the springs first; after that, you may just need to replace the chain for your existing GDO

Are you referring to the main sping on the door itself? The one people say only professionals should change?

So how quiet is "ultra-quiet", in decibels?
Quiet enough that your door will likely make more noise than the opener.

Yes. You can check door balance yourself, but probably not a great idea to mess with the spring if you don't know what you're doing. A balanced door should be able to stay in place halfway open with the opener disconnected where it connects to the door. This is what allows the opener to barely lift any weight.

I have the smart version of this opener (was $200 last fall) and it's very nice. I appreciate that Genie doesn't try to lock you into their ecosystem with subscription fees like Chamberlain MyQ. If you don't need smart functionality or want to add an aftermarket version, this is a very nice system that's quiet and easy to install.

I only have one spring and it looks OK to me . Ive attached a picture. I lived a place few years back and the spring broke. That one definitely looked broken.
Thank you for your help.

Buying one with "smart features " means you have to pay fees regularly?
The Genie doesn't charge monthly fees; the Chamberlain/MyQ got bought by a private equity firm and now requires fees for anything "extra" like auto head unit integration or IFTTT or home automation

Would any one know if this would be an exact swap out for just the motor on a 3/4 HP unit if all the hardware is already up? The 3/4 HP won't lift my double door after only replacing 6 months ago.

Great deal. Got 3 at $180 the last time they were on sale. Swapped out my 20yo liftmasters. Reused wiring, but everything else came in the box. Highly recommended!

My Craftman garage door opener from 2001 gave up 3 days ago. The belt was issue, so did my research and got the Costco Chamberlin one.

I got it installed by a professional ($150) this morning and so far so good. I did the wi-fi setup and I can open and close the garage door from the phone.

Need to complete the video keypad setup.

One more thing no matter where you buy from but the Home depot in NJ charges $150 to install the garage door opener if you want a professional to install for you.

If you have to decide between this Genie or the Costco one, I will definitely get the Costco one for $50 more. Very quiet, nice light, video keypad, and Wi-Fi controls.

I bought the one from Costco also, but not going to install the keypad, it's wifi on battery plus you need a paid subscription for videos.

My parents had theirs break, was an old screw type. Door company wanted $500 + install for their chain one so I told them I would handle it. Cancelled my order for the Costco one I placed yesterday and order this one. Thanks OP!

The only benefit of the Costco one over this is the brighter light. There's no universe where I want my keypad needing to have batteries replaced monthly, nor the closed ecosystem junk that Chamberlain does.

Want to turn this Genie into a HomeKit compatible for still less than the Chamberlain at Costco?

This may not matter to people but for the 'smart' side of garage doors, I really don't trust a garage door company (or their low bid tech contractor) to do security for an IOT device, or to have it maintained, to not throw a paywall over it, etc. lots of third party solutions you can research to integrate into your smart ecosystem
