Yeah getting the full setup isn't cheap. You also need to buy a bridge and then the light bar. If watching demonstrations doesn't really excite you and make you go "hell yeah I want that!" than I wouldn't bother investing.

For me I saw it as a fun hobbie. I've been wanting to get back into movie watching for the last year and have been slowly upgrading my experience for that. Light bar setup, 4k UB820 player, physical 4k movie collecting.
For Costco members, they have a 2 pack of Hue sensors for $60: I picked up a couple 2 packs and integrated them with Zigbee ZHA in Home Assistant - I am using them to set up lighting automations in our L-shaped full bathroom, using two of them in a binary sensor group - they're very impressive, a big leap in performance and appearance versus the Aqara P1 sensors they're replacing. Also nice that the Hue motion sensors take standard AAA batteries.

Same same! Been using the older 4k 60hz model for the last 6 months and while it's been great I'm ready to upgrade to get the full 120hz experience.

Personally, I like the Philips setup a bit better than Govee. It's more expensive but it doesn't have the webcam thingy hovering over my tv like Govee does. If that doesn't bother you, I'd go for Govee.

Outside of the 120hz, what other reason is there to upgrade to the new 8k box? Trying to justify spending a few hundred.

Same here, I'll buy if the music sync will work with surround encoded music.

Anyone know if they integrated that function?

I'd also be curious to hear from someone who's used both but from what I'm seeing the Govee version uses a camera you need to set up looking at the TV vs the syncbox. Not sure if that's worth not saving $150 or so...

Great… I JUST bought one of the new Datura ceiling lights this week. Sure would have come in handy then.

If most of your TV watching is done through native smart TV apps then the sync box will not capture this content. There are some exceptions, such as certain TV brands having Phillips integrations, but my current TV isn't one of them. That is why the Govee solution worked better in my case.
