I called the unlock department, they gave me a few codes and when they didn't work the guy said you probably need to rack up 60 days of service.

Context: called up total wireless which said the device was eligible but wouldn't unlock so they said call Motorola which I did and they said it's locked to TracFone so I called TracFone up only for a repeat performance so was told you probably need 60 days of service.
These new phones (usually sold after June 2024) are unlocked remotely by having their IMEIs added to a database of unlocked phones. There's no option on the phone to enter the unlocking codes that the uninformed rep gave you. Last year there was a similar issue with Moto G Power 2024 phones sold by Straight Talk (another sub-brand of TF). Read the Wiki of this thread https://slickdeals.net/f/17553237-straight-talk-motorola-moto-g-power-5g-2024-1-month-silver-unlimited-plan-from-42-50-new-lines-only-free-s-h?page=15#commentsHeader . They were past the 60 days, ST/TF Unlocking dept said they were already unlocked but the phones weren't. People got bounced back and forth between ST and Moto. Finally ST owned up to a problem in their system and unlocked them en masse. That might be happening here. Any rep who says the phone needs 60 days of service is full of crap.

If I purchase this phone without activation, can I use it directly on Tracfone even though it is still locked with TW? Thanks!

That kills it for me - I demand both on a phone. I always use a micro SD card to easily transfer photos & such from a phone.

You can. You'll need to ask a TF rep to "re-brand" it as a TF phone first. After that, there are two scenarios:
a) You activate it with a new TF plan (foregoing the TW plan that comes preloaded to its SIM) and it'll be unlocked after 60 days.
b) You activate it with a transfer from an existing TF line, then you won't have to pay out-of-pocket for a new plan, but it won't get unlocked because transferred service no longer count as "paid service" for unlocking purpose.

Then get the Moto G Stylus 2024 which has microSD card slot, headphone jack, and simila performance to the Edge, albeit 128GB internal storage instead of 256GB. The Moto G Stylus 2024 is also free with a required plan.

Did you activate using a new number or port out an existing number. Thank in advance.

I ported out the number from GV. Right now I can talk, text, and data successfully. Should I get a date of unlock if I text UNLOCK to 611611? Why did it display a website for me? I did go to that website and enter my phone number to verify and it said my number is not eligible for unlock.

That feature hasn't worked since late Jan or so. It first started telling everyone their phone was already eligible to be unlocked (right after activation), and now just gives the link to the unlock policy website.
***Note - the website is basically useless too. Only one IMEI I entered came back as already unlocked, but most came back ineligible, even ones that were already unlocked.

Anyone else having trouble with the website? I got verified, put in my credit card, and got to the last step to check out but keep getting the error:
"We apologize, but we cannot process your transaction at this time. Please try again later or call us at 1-866-663-3633."

Now simply opening my cart does this...

Oh I see. Thanks for the info, but mine should be unlocked automatically after 2 months right?

I just added another line with another Motorola Edge 2024. The cost was $30. They reduced to $30 for a 2nd line. This worked after I activated my 1st line successfully, otherwise the price would be $55 without discount.

Well, that will quiet down the doubters, especially the poster who said we straight out lied about the 2nd-line discount.

Will this phone be unlocked after 60 days when activated for the 1st month only?
