For those who only want cash, not points:

$1000 cash back less:
- $95 annual fee
- $50-100 opportunity cost for spending $5000 on a card that only gives 1%cb when you could have gotten 2-3%cb.

Still over $800 tax-free profit. Not bad at all.

Considering it. I have one more application before I hit chase 5/24, then wait for a boosted amex gold or platinum bonus.

Any 0% apr period on this?

Will they treat a tax payment at pay1040 as a cash advance? Most credit card vendors treat it as a purchase.
The offer is supposed to be available online starting 04/03.
Not only is it in OP's message, it's also in the subject. Good grief.

After I get the points. When can I downgrade the card and do what card?
You downgrade the card after 1 year passes and the next annual fee ($95) posts. At that point, once you see the annual fee posted, call or message Chase and tell them you want to downgrade product-change the Sapphire Preferred card to either the Freedom Flex or Freedom Unlimited card. They'll waive/refund the $95 annual fee, and will send you the downgraded card in the mail.

Is there a # to call about application status? Signed up for my wife via one of these affiliate links when it went live on 3/3. Got the "we'll get back to you" message.

Which is annoying because I then realized within her chase account, she already had a pre-approved CSP link to click and accept, now updated with the 100k points offer. I don't understand how she can be pre-approved for the card, sign up for it, and then not get approved instantly.

I last applied and got approved for CSP in July 2021 and hit 4k spend in Sept 2021. Should I wait until Oct to apply? I hope the 100k SUB is still around by then.

cuz you didnt follow that pre approved link earlier. thats always how pre approved works. you must enter the pre approved promo code to be qualified. doesnt mean you can apply it and assume you should be qualified because your already preapproved it somewhere else.

plus. preapproved doesnt mean you should get approved instantly even if you use the promo code. its just that they had your name and addr readily in the system. fico. income and credit history would be determined later.

It's based off when is your next credit card statement, so if you receive your credit card statement next week and you downgrade now yeah a week should be enough. I just came from a branch and this is what I learned today. I just got my statement couple of days ago, so my next statement is May 2nd. It's all based off of when your credit report is updated, which will allow you to then be eligible for the card after you've downgraded / product changed prior to your next statement. You can also call up Chase and ask them this just to confirm rather taking my word for it.

Thanks! My next statement is going to be Apr 23. Will this offer exist till then? Anyone knows the offer expiry date?

I applied yesterday and got that dreaded application review like some others. I had the Sapphire preferred last year but it was through a product change so I never got any welcome bonus. Technically I should be eligible. I called this morning to check the status and was told I have to wait 2 weeks for a letter. I can't stand the wait on these stupid reviews. Been a chase customer close to 20 years, I have the cfu, checking and savings with them. Close to 800 credit score and have not applied for anything since 2021.

This is a useless card ( and I have it hence from experience). There are no benefits like TSA/Global entry reimbursement, nor lounge access etc.
The best for me is Capitalone Venture X. Yes it charges you the $395 fee, but technically they pay you $5, with $300 travel credit per year, 10000 bonus miles on anniversary ( ~ $100). And it comes with Priority pass membership giving you unlimited access to lounges across world. Again I have this card and this is based on my experience.

If you use points for cash back, then sure useless. Otherwise, if you travel and transfer points to airlines or hotels this is one of the best/required cards to have.

Wow. I have to find a nice banker like that who would do that for me..
Thats why its up to manager discretion. They usually have a low set limit of what they can credit per month so its not like they are giving out money left and right.

Does anyone know when this offer will expire? I'm trying to time taking the offer with my car insurance which is a decent size spend but it's 4 months from now.

On that note, what are popular ways to spend $5k? I'm pretty frugal so based on my last 3 months, it might tough to make $5k. And that would require shifting all my other CC spends to this new card.

I am planning on paying my Federal/State taxes with the credit card. Can somebody confirm this will count towards the $5K spending.

I believe IRS uses https://www.pay1040.com/ OR https://www.officialpayments.com/index.jsp

I've read people were buying gift cards and/or over-paying on rent/utility bills.
