Synthetic, not down. Decent for wet (rain, snow, or sweat), not ideal for dry.

Down fill.
Synthetics have caught up or surpassed down. Depends on use case, stitching, quality ($$$), and more.

This jacket, however, is just low-tier quality, period. The cut is baggy, fabric isn't comfortable, and the gold inlay starts disintegrating and littering sparkly gold everywhere.

Columbia jackets are weird.

down fill, at least 600 and up for it to be light and warm. synthetic can't match the warmth and usually weights a lot more. the up side is if ever wet, synthetic can still keep you warm partially. down, unless it's esp treated, do not deal with wetness very well.

I doubt you'll get down full for less than $100 especially at 600.

Nahhh...
People on a coupon-finder site want to spend $200+ on a 600-fill down jacket (or $400+ on an 800+ fill jacket to save an extra 4 oz. of weight.)
Money, durability, fit are never a factor. We're all thru-hikers taking a sabbatical from our FAANG Staff Engineer gig🫔

My local costco store had columbia down 650 jackets for $25 6 or 8 weeks ago. Surprisingly, they were in stock for over 10 days at that price. I wound up buying 3. I've really enjoyed them so far but haven't worn them in the rain so i can't contribute to that conversation. I do feel like overall columbia makes solid quality jackets for a fair price when on sale.

Bought and returned. The fabric on the cuffs of the sleeves is super rough and uncomfortable.
