PSA: Looks like total wireless changed the policy from 60 days after activation to 60 days of active service. This went in to effect April 1st 2025.

Good phone and good deal.

The a35 is good, and is likely the last of the "good" Samsung a-series phones with an SD slot. The a36 and a56 don't have them.

I got the previous (nearly identical) a54 deal and was very happy with it. The two phones are architecturally almost identical (same processors and ram). It's not a speed demon, but is fast enough to do all "normal" stuff, like social media, email, phone, etc... without any real performance problems. Maybe a gamer would be disappointed with it, and it will be getting OneUI 7 very, very soon.

Wow.

Porting in a number is a hassle -- if you don't already have a phone number.

The whole ID verification is just...how do the kids say it nowadays...."totes wack".

No idea how they're storing your image and credentials -- or who has access to them -- or what the process is for them to expunge that data -- or who is ensuring they're following best practices.

Oh who am I kidding, your DL and image are being sold to the highest bidder. We all know that.

It should but I don't have a first hand experience with it so I can't guarantee it. People were discussing this option a few pages back.
Thanks for the feedback. I will receive my phone today, I will see how I should do with the 2nd month.

I spoke to total wireless unlocking department, they said you need to make 2 payments for service (and wait 30 days before they will unlock). she said mine is showing only one payment so i need to wait.

so yeah they screwed us.

Since I already paid for one I can't get refunded I'm going to order a second one since the line of service is nearly half off on the second line. Anyone know if I have to submit ID verification for second line? Will I be able to Port out my phone line after phone unlocks or since it's the last day of the bill it unlocks will that give me enough time?
do you need to port in another number for the second line? how can you get the second line for half price? I was thinking to get the second phone without unlocking it(just use it as a streaming device).

Yes port in for free like the first line but I was told service for the second line was only $30 a month instead of 55

How can you port in for the first line free? I thought we need to pay a number for the port-in, is that right? I used a number from Mint Mobile before it expired for my first line, thanks!

Anyone know how to downgrade your plan from the $55 to the $35 plan for the second month? I read this on the headline of the other TW deal pertaining to the moto g stylus but since that thread is not very active I am asking here.

I chatted with total Wireless about this yesterday, they said for the second month I could lower the $55 plan down to a $45 plan for the second month. if you're buying additional lines it should be $30 for first month and $30 for second month or so I was told by someone on this thread

Same here. 2 A35s activated Feb 6 and Feb 14, the 1st one did NOT unlock (and now I don't expect the 2nd on to unlock on Apr14/15). Unlocking Dept rep (888 442-5102) said the same - requires 60 days of active service. Says that requirement has always been there. Said that I could add one more month of service and I'd have to call the CS dept to add plan. I filed a complaint with FCC.
Update on FCC Complaint:
Received a call this morning from TW - Govt Affairs dept. The rep explained why my A35 was not eligible for unlock according to the NEW policy, that's when I interjected and reminded her that the "60 days of active paid service" did not exist when I bought and activated my phone. Says she needs to confer with someone and puts me on hold for over 10 mins, and comes back only to say that she needs to escalate to a senior dept. 😑 Will take 1 to 3 business days to get back to me. πŸ™„

More people need to file FCC complaints so that TW prioritizes the issue of retroactively applying their new Unlock Policy.

So it's $45 not a $35. So you can do the change by chatting with them? Thanks!

In your case, you could show them the TW policy using way back machine to see that at least until April 5th, the 60 day active policy wasn't there.

it's going to be massive FCC complaints with both Straight Talk and Total customers. You'd think Verizon would know better and apply the policy legally but they get away with all kinds of stuff, they didn't even put it online until days after the 1st. I wish you luck.

Thank you so much. I thought it was like Boost Mobile where you can't change your plan.
