PSA: Looks like total wireless changed the policy from 60 days after activation to 60 days of active service. This went in to effect April 1st 2025.

Good phone and good deal.

The a35 is good, and is likely the last of the "good" Samsung a-series phones with an SD slot. The a36 and a56 don't have them.

I got the previous (nearly identical) a54 deal and was very happy with it. The two phones are architecturally almost identical (same processors and ram). It's not a speed demon, but is fast enough to do all "normal" stuff, like social media, email, phone, etc... without any real performance problems. Maybe a gamer would be disappointed with it, and it will be getting OneUI 7 very, very soon.

Wow.

Porting in a number is a hassle -- if you don't already have a phone number.

The whole ID verification is just...how do the kids say it nowadays...."totes wack".

No idea how they're storing your image and credentials -- or who has access to them -- or what the process is for them to expunge that data -- or who is ensuring they're following best practices.

Oh who am I kidding, your DL and image are being sold to the highest bidder. We all know that.

it's going to be massive FCC complaints with both Straight Talk and Total customers. You'd think Verizon would know better and apply the policy legally but I have my doubts, they didn't even put it online until days after the 1st. I wish you luck.

I noticed many people mentioned about the rebranding idea, is it a working solution with successful unlock with Tracfone, or is it just a "thought"? Thanks!
rebranding loses the monthly plan you already paid for because it's not transferable. used to be more common when phones were sold without plans but now it doesn't make much sense.

issue is the fine print - policy states they can make changes at any time so people are likely screwed.

Yes, but not retroactively
Otherwise they could say never unlock ever

In your case, you could show them the TW policy using way back machine to see that at least until April 5th, the 60 day active policy wasn't there. https://web.archive.org/web/20250...yAP8WlbU!/
Yes, I had the screenshot of this page, thanks to the user who first mentioned it a couple of pages back. The TW rep never did ask for proof of old policy. But yeah, I feel confident having this proof.

Edit: - that was you that first mentioned it. Thanks. ☺️

Don't give them any ideas! I agree it was a crappy/illegal thing for them to do, but they just seem to keep getting away with it.

Really? Do they actually get away with this kinda stuff? Can we not escalate this to our local County District Attorney?

If FCC complaint actually does something im in. If not im already entangled in this web. Im thinking about buying the (iPhone 14 128GB Total Wireless Port in with 2 months of service $304.99) new deal that just popped up. If i can confirm that a second line drops the plan to $30x2 might be a go.

More people need to file FCC complaints so that TW prioritizes the issue of retroactively applying their new Unlock Policy.
Would you mind sharing how and what you did to file your FCC complaint? I don't know anything about the process.

That is if the phone unlocks in 60 days or less. Any delay then your looking at another month out of pocket.
Few phone of mine unlocked right on the 59 day.

Search FCC complaint and fill out form, someone from higher level TW/TF/ST support will call you in a day or two.

Here's the link to FCC...
https://consumercomplaints.fcc.go...int-Issues

FCC forwards your complaint to TW, and the TW- Govt Affairs dept called me back the next day. My case is not resolved yet, as it's escalated to another dept.

Note: I feel I have a valid claim since I bought and activated my 2 Samsung A35 phones in Feb, and so the new unlocking policy effective 1 April should NOT apply to me.

I called total Wireless they confirmed I can only have the code sent to the number I'm trying to Port from when trying to place order. Fortunately I was able to move my esim from my lost phone into another spare phone I had. But now I'm stuck in the next step verify process. Wheel keep spinning
ONthe iPhone 14 deal last month I sent the verification to a Google voice number since it wouldn't go to any of my tmobile phones. When the phone came I activated it on a different ported number with no problems.

I got the iPhone 14 plus deal last month and just did this deal as a 2nd line today. I only had the options of $55 or $65 plan for my 2nd line. The lower price add-a-line only shows up after you have a $55 or $65 plan in your cart.
