PSA: Looks like total wireless changed the policy from 60 days after activation to 60 days of active service. This went in to effect April 1st 2025.

Good phone and good deal.

The a35 is good, and is likely the last of the "good" Samsung a-series phones with an SD slot. The a36 and a56 don't have them.

I got the previous (nearly identical) a54 deal and was very happy with it. The two phones are architecturally almost identical (same processors and ram). It's not a speed demon, but is fast enough to do all "normal" stuff, like social media, email, phone, etc... without any real performance problems. Maybe a gamer would be disappointed with it, and it will be getting OneUI 7 very, very soon.

Wow.

Porting in a number is a hassle -- if you don't already have a phone number.

The whole ID verification is just...how do the kids say it nowadays...."totes wack".

No idea how they're storing your image and credentials -- or who has access to them -- or what the process is for them to expunge that data -- or who is ensuring they're following best practices.

Oh who am I kidding, your DL and image are being sold to the highest bidder. We all know that.

I'm also on this $10 plan and mobile data still works fast. My 30 day first month ends in a couple days, I'll report back if my mobile data slows or stops after that
Thank you for the response. And how much data have you used?
I am just thinking, if this $10 plan has "unlimited" data with tethering, maybe it is worth keeping in for now and don't cancel it after the phone is unlocked.

Does anyone have the original unlock policy by Total Wireless before the policy change on April 1, 2025? Trying to get a copy of the original unlock policy so that it can be used while filing.
Any screenshot or PDF would be great - thank you.

I activated my phone in March and have been waiting... they said that they have had this restriction since December and I have 33 days left on my account... wtf.
Any idea how I can get it unlocked (without paying for another 33 days).
Feel like i should complain to FTC.

"For all cellphones Activated with TracFone service on the Verizon network on or after November 23, 2021, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked automatically, sixty (60) days after Activation."

I'm having the same issue. Are you filing to FTC?
I think I'm going to wait another 30 days because for some reason it says 35 days on their system even though 60 days has passed since I activated it.

You can file FCC complaint if you want but it's not likely to make much difference. The old policy also said they could make changes whenever they wanted so we're all stuck - lots of ST/TW/TF customers are furious & many have filed complaints but only option has been to pay the additional month if you want the phone unlocked. It's almost impossible to win against Verizon (owner of ST/TW/TF).

Thanks so much for the link. Yes, I'm thinking of going the FTC route. I had 4 phones all purchased in Feb and one in March. None have unlocked. This was all before the April 1 policy change. To me it doesn't make sense as to how they could block unlock for all those who activated 2 months before policy change.

Totally agree it shouldn't have been retroactive since phones were already activated.
Formal FCC complaint gets a callback from ST/TW resolution dept & they're just telling people they have to pay the additional month to unlock phone. No one is doing anything other than (sometimes) offering a cheaper plan for the 2nd month. It's frustrating when you know it's wrong & they screwed us over but I went ahead & added an extra month to avoid arguing - my phone auto unlocked yesterday & now I'm free of them.

On the phone they keep saying they changed the policy last year... honestly when I called them originally they did mention the same. You may have some luck with FTC, though you might want to just pay the months for all 4 phones and then contact FTC for a refund since they won't be able to modify the system lock.

I am trying to buy this A35 deal. ID verification went thru with no problems. I add the free phone to my cart but then no plans are shown to choose from. I've tried this same process with the A36 and everything goes thru fine including the ability to choose a plan.

I'm wondering if no plan choice showing for the A35 is indicative of it being out of stock. Does anyone know if the A35 goes in and out of stock?

I'd rather get the A35 over the A36. Thanks.

The cs told me that the $10 plan is good for 7days only. How to avail the $10 for a month plan?

Just curious, what is the reason you want the A35 over the A36?

Other than the memory card apparently the A35 has a better camera but other than that A36 has a long list of improvements larger screen thinner bezel thinner phone at least 2 years of more Android updates

For those downgrading your mobile service on the second month beware. I did this before the end of my first month and they ended up billing me twice- once for the $10 plan and a second bill for the $55 plan. Also if you have other devices you prepaid two or three months for, it will move up the next bill date for those other devices sooner than they were or I just got an experienced person who messed up

As someone mentioned above, the A35 has better cameras, expandable memory, and a processor that is equal to or better than that of the A36. The A36 was not an evolution the A35 but rather a somewhat lesser phone.

Holding both a35 and a36 together, a36 is notably lighter and Slimmer to me that's a big deal.
