Worth noting that free resolution upgrades do not transfer to MA and, thus, don't port out. Even if you disconnect/reconnect after the upgrade.

Thanks for the heads up. I'd also like to remind people that the Moviesanywhere app streams movies at a higher bitrate than vudu or Amazon, so HDX movies look a lot closer to bluray, and 4k streaming looks a lot closer to UHD discs. Still not as good as physical, but it narrows the gap.

Snagged a couple HDXs that have 4ks available, will see if they upgrade later, have had success with that lately at Vudango

They will just upgrade on their own. Sometimes it's next day, sometimes it can take a week. You should get an email letting you know.

It's completely unreliable. It appears certain select by WB titles are very likely to get upgraded. You're better off buying the 4K codes from Blu-ray.com trade forum.

Every now and then (happened to me a couple of times without any purchase), VUDU will notify you that a couple of HD titles got upgraded to 4K as a courtesy.

That is correct. MA sets the resolution of the portal you purchased from at the time of the purchase. That's why when you buy from Apple, the Apple's free 4K upgrade will set MA at 4K at the time of the purchase. I have movies that were purchased 4K at Apple but VUDU only had HD. But because MA says you have it in 4K, you get the upgrade when VUDU has the 4K available. There are als.o many Universal titles that are 4K in MA but Apple does not have 4K yet.
