Pretty sure it has been this price for a while. Still a decent deal, all things considered.

Would not order this with other items. I've seen Amazon play around with grouping S&S with pending orders.

Unless you like sticky other items, just make sure nothing ships around the time this does.

Yeah, these have mostly stayed at $3.99 for about six months now. Sometimes the price fluctuates a bit, but overall, the average cost remains the same.

These are plastic bottles that are mostly immune to shipping damage due to their flexible, somewhat bendable nature, so damage shouldn't be an issue. Cans, on the other hand, are a different story, and I would agree with you there.

I would recommend choosing plastic bottles over cans whenever possible. Not only to minimize shipping damage but also because of the extra carbonation. Plastic bottles compensate for their porous nature by having additional carbonation, which results in a fresher, better-tasting beverage compared to cans. However, to fully enjoy the benefits of the extra fizz, you'll need to get a relatively fresh bottle.

I decided to get 5 packs of Diet Coke (Gray Bottle) [amazon.com] for $18 shipped via S&S as they are also on sale and are my favorite; thanks OP.

Pressurized liquid loaded with corn syrup. These packages are chucked regularly. It's not the plastic that gets you, it's the pressurization.

I drink a lot of soda. One problem with soda bottles versus cans, is that a few bottles will burst in freight transit. When they do, the soda drips down on all the other bottles. This is why occasionally with Diet Coke, people will remark of an ugly smell/odor on the bottle after opening. Like dirty laundry.

What happens is the soda bottle above burst, and a little amount dripped into the twist cap. That residue then grew some bacteria, creating the odor. (Solution is to pour that one into a glass and not drink it out of the bottle).

And that's a crate of Diet Coke in special transport designed not to have one blow up. Not an Amazon shipping box poorly packed by a barely-above-minimum-wage shipper.

There is a much higher chance of damage during delivery with cans than with plastic bottles; I don't think you have a strong argument here.

I know it's anecdotal, but I've experienced the kind of disastrous mess you're talking about when receiving soda cans through delivery yet never once with plastic bottles. This is due to their vastly more flexible and impact-absorbing properties compared to aluminum cans. I've been receiving 5 six-packs of Diet Coke in plastic bottles for about a year now via Amazon, and not once have they arrived damaged.

In fact, as I mentioned previously, I find that soda in plastic bottles taste crisper and fresher compared to cans. This is because extra carbonation is added to bottled soda to help mitigate the slow seepage of air over time, as plastic is semi-porous.

I wouldn't have either delivered by today's Amazon "fulfillment" in a six pack, so that's a false dichotomy of my opinion.

I bought these a few weeks ago and they have a best by date of May 2025, like another poster said, they're more flat than usual - I think this is why they're on discount.
