You dont have to do this necessarily as the verification code they send when you are purchasing the phone doesnt have to be the phone number you are porting. You can get the verification code on any number then when you port a number over you can use the number barn number for $5

Yes, but nobody sold you something for $125-200 under retailer wholesale cost.
You get what you pay for.
You can buy this phone for more without the requirements.
If they did not require this some folks would buy dozens to resell (which I have no exact issue with other than it make such a deal impossible to offer)
Decide for yourself.
It's really no different from walking into T-mobile and signing a contract to get a 'free' or subsidized iphone. They take your id there.

All who did before 4/1 have a reasonable chance of phone unlocking even if they don't buy 2nd month.

I say "reasonable" since the other thread has both examples of phones unlocking and unlocking (assuming a pre 4/1 purchase and 2 months passing).

Phone has to be activated with paid plan for 60 days or it won't qualify for unlock.
