You dont have to do this necessarily as the verification code they send when you are purchasing the phone doesnt have to be the phone number you are porting. You can get the verification code on any number then when you port a number over you can use the number barn number for $5

Yes, but nobody sold you something for $125-200 under retailer wholesale cost.
You get what you pay for.
You can buy this phone for more without the requirements.
If they did not require this some folks would buy dozens to resell (which I have no exact issue with other than it make such a deal impossible to offer)
Decide for yourself.
It's really no different from walking into T-mobile and signing a contract to get a 'free' or subsidized iphone. They take your id there.

I just created a Google Voice number and when I punch in the Google Voice number on total Wireless to Port from I get we couldn't validate your number at this moment.
EDIT
Tried again 30 minutes later and port number worked but device discount didn't apply in my shopping cart as this was my fifth phone I guess you only get discounted equipment for four phones per account

Just a heads up for anyone actually planning on using the service... apparently Disney+ is NOT included with the 3-month prepaid service according to chat support. I will try to chase it down with phone support, but that's the first-pass response I got from chat support.

As for shipping time, I ordered on 04/10, shipped on 04/15, and received 04/16 (did not pay extra for 1-day shipping).
