If they did not require this some folks would buy dozens to resell (which I have no exact issue with other than it make such a deal impossible to offer)
Decide for yourself.
It's really no different from walking into T-mobile and signing a contract to get a 'free' or subsidized iphone. They take your id there.

Someone gave bad advice to use zeros for your account number. After I tried that I got customer support phone call from Total Wireless and I gave them phone # as acc# and four digit PIN and the order then succeeded

I ported 4 google voice # to four iphone 13 using the google voice # as the account # and pin. (I never created a voicemail pin on any of the GV #) The number seem to transfer over on the phone but not completely (it's still in the GV but the lock/unlock option is not gone yet). Calling out on the iphone shows the # but if you call the iphone # it goes to google voice (same with text). The 5g internet works great!
According to total wireless it'll take a few days to completely transfer over. I'll edit this post if it doesn't fully transition over in the next couple days.
