You dont have to do this necessarily as the verification code they send when you are purchasing the phone doesnt have to be the phone number you are porting. You can get the verification code on any number then when you port a number over you can use the number barn number for $5

Yes, but nobody sold you something for $125-200 under retailer wholesale cost.
You get what you pay for.
You can buy this phone for more without the requirements.
If they did not require this some folks would buy dozens to resell (which I have no exact issue with other than it make such a deal impossible to offer)
Decide for yourself.
It's really no different from walking into T-mobile and signing a contract to get a 'free' or subsidized iphone. They take your id there.

Got the phone today. Tried porting in Google Voice number. Phone activated, but when calling GV number from another phone, it still goes to Google Voice...not to the iPhone. iPhone 13 does say its phone number is the Google Voice number. How long does it take to port?

It takes several weekdays to port out from GV (it's mentioned in thread numerous times).

Mine took about 24 hrs (maybe a GV reset after midnight) for incoming calls to switch, but I could make outgoing calls immediately.

I plan to buy the phone to send to a family member overseas.

Is the 60 day unlock something that is sent to the phone or is it like an internal timer once you activate the phone?

If I need to I can keep the phone locally until the 60 days passes to confirm it is unlocked.
But it would be nice to send it by air immediately.

Question for those who have done multiple sorts of these deals... can I buy this, and not activate it for several months? Or is activation required right away?

I got in on the Razr deal, but the pre-paid service on that won't end until Sept. Ideally I could buy a 2nd phone, keep in a drawer, then activate the 2nd phone in Sept ...basically as if I bought several months from now.

But not sure if that is how this works.
