It's "anti-China" to not want your hardware to be preloaded with malware by the vendor? I don't get it. We're not even talking your bog-standard practice of the laptop or smartphone vendor pre-loading the device with Facebook or McAfee Antivirus--we're talking actual malware. The kind that contain keystroke loggers.

Thanks for reminding me why I have to remember never to buy AceMagic hardware.

I don't understand how people can be like, "Oh, yeah, the vendor is consciously preloading the thing with malware, but, just wipe it and reinstall! It's good hardware for the price!"

We used to boycott laptop manufacturers for lesser offenses than that.

Here we go again with news from 2023 or early 2024 about a few bad ISO installs of windows that were found and fixed and never happened again.

Most people think it is just the software which can have malware.and incorrectly assiume they can reinstall software and avoid malware.
Many manufacturers have their pre-boot loader lased with instructiuons to download malware or ransom ware from an ip. That is the reason why these are banned in many countries.
Formatting HDD will not help as their firmware is laced with malware.
Literally false and not factual.

can't tell if you are misinformed or trolling, UEFI backdoors are quite prevalent

I know they exist. But to say they are prevalent is an exaggeration.

As you can see in what you've provided, those are highly targeted exploits. Also notice there's not a single mention of secure boot anywhere in that. They likely turned it off.

UEFI as a subsystem, even with TPM 1.3, is quite secure.

Realtek NICS are usually fine, unless you're trying for line rate, like a FW. I did have some issues with proxmox, so maybe avoided for virtualisation. But the intel NIC mini PCs are rarely this price.

What ARM do you recommend? Last time I checked there wasn't much between a Pi and Mac Mini.
I'd love an ARM mini PC to play around with, but I don't see any snapdragons and RISC-V seems to be way more expensive.... I see the Jetson Nanos are now closer to $200, but they seem more AI focussed. Otherwise, why ARM? The power savings might be $10 per year...
Well, one consideration is it's usually easier to get an ARM device running on battery with longevity. Power consumption adds up and pays for itself over time. They don't use nearly as many variable voltages if you're trying to do something highly specialized. And then of course, there's just the inherent overhead of x86.

As for boards, check out some of the NAS boards on Ali.

Many come with 4 NICs and 6 SATA ports with RAID for under $180. RAM and NAND are on board, so they're very economical.

You could also go with something like the Orange Pi or even one of the ones that use Rockchip.

Alternatively, I've gotten Debian running on an Asus router if you're just looking to testbed.

Is this good as a plex server?
It can handle Plex, but the network bandwidth is a little light by today's standards.

But if you don't need to do any transcoding (rarely needed for watching at home), you could definitely plug a USB DAS into it and have a good base for Plex.

What is the Powershell command to export drivers?

Thanks
If they don't get back to you, I recommend getting Snappy Driver Installer and auditing that way.

It goes hunting for the latest drivers online instead of pulling out the OEM ones, which is ideal for keeping up with any bug fixes and performance improvements.

Having the latest drivers right off the bat also means Windows will stop trying to grab them from the Microsoft repository, which can cause headaches and bloat your driver store for no good reason.

There has never been malware found in the UEFI partition.

You're taking something that was a proof of concept and blowing it out of proportion.

UEFI and Windows are actually very secure by default in that they now require a specific module to even boot. And there's no way around that without additional user intervention to deliberately disable it.
I said pre boot and firmware. Thus I meant BIOS. Not the boot loader or the boot loader partition on disk.
May be ACEMAGIC mini PC doesnt have any BIOS or doesnt have any BIOS EPROM. and BIOS program.
