I have one of these. I was actually surprised at how well it works. If you're cutting soft wood, dimension, lumber, nothing bigger than a 2 x 4, it seems to work quite well. I've actually taken it with me to Home Depot and to Lowe's, if I needed to buy some lumber that needed to be a little shorter and make it a little easier to carry, I simply take it out to the parking lot, cut it there, and then put it in the back of my vehicle. This thing has its limitations, but if you keep that in mind and you need it for cutting things like plywood or smaller dimensional lumber, I think you'll find it quite useful.

I've got this saw, and with the little 2.0Ah battery, it is dangerously underpowered, but with the larger batteries, it cuts through plywood no problem.
With that battery, it's like giving you a dull knife. It's not safe.

I haven't had any problems with a 1.5 ah battery, although I have some 4ah batteries now. The day I got the saw and the 1.5ah batteries I tried it out on a 2x3 (cut down 2x4) I found in my shop. It made 46 - 48 cuts (I lost count) and was still cutting before I got tired of screwing with it and quit. It works far better than I ever thought it would.

Why? Just why? Better off getting the standard 7 1/4" cordless saw for a bit more. We'll worth it and better than this undersized saw.

Yeah, I've cut a lot of plywood and 2x4 with mine and I've been impressed by how well it does work. It's light and easy to use.

If you regularly do any cutting, I would suggest getting the 7 1/4 size instead. For very occasional stuff, this is fine as others have mentioned. Where the 5 1/2 falls down is when you start to do angled cuts, then you're going to wish you had a larger blade. The 7 1/4 also has vacuum attachment available for dust collection and is brushless.

DTO has the 7 1/4" for $70 refurb and 89 tool only, which if you don't have batteries already will more than double the cost of this. You would almost certainly want a 4ah+ size battery for it as well.

Having said all that I have both and still occasionally use this for small projects (even this weekend, oddly).

I always forget I could do that... I only have like 4 saws I could use if I brought one of them... I'll just have to buy another one while I get the wood, lol

I don't think the size is the problem like a lot noted, I'm laughing at a circular saw being sold with a 2 amp battery... I have a couple of similar ones and that battery is going to let you down much more than the saw will. I've lucked out and STILL using the undersized non-brushless junk I bought in 2007 so all hail RYOBI (not rhee-yoobi).

Good deal, buy diablo blade or something for the type of material you want to use it on and put the battery in your RYOBI mini-fan or flashlight. Or a door stop? I have 18 batteries now from 'deals' over the years.
