Great jacket, but I'd wait until Memorial Day. I got it last memorial day for $118 (and for the more expensive hooded version).

A discussion on merino wool has no place in a post about a jacket. Merino is good for base layers. This jacket is for lightweight insulated warmth and cutting wind. It's designed to keep you warm and shed heat during intense movement. Down is generally too warm to be activewear.
Thank you. This jacket fills a completely different niche than wool.

Buncha armchair outdoor experts out here that just learned about wool and think it's superior to everything in every case. It's not. It's fantastic at what it does, but it doesn't do everything

Is there a site that you would recommend for jacket reviews/comparisons? Trying to find something similar to this Patagonia (they never fit me that well but was maybe going to give it a shot if the coupon worked).

Looking for something for short winter hikes (around freezing) with the dog where I dont have to layer like crazy. Like you said a down jacket gets too warm going up a hill, but want something that can retain some heat while stopped talking to people etc.

Thanks fit better how so? Which one has longer sleeves? I am 6'2" 190lbs
Patagonia is slightly bigger, and has bit fitment for those that work out with wider shoulders.

You will probably need a large.

I have a lightweight Columbia jacket that works wonders walking to the store in the winter. Its got those little silver dots inside and is water/wind proof but no other insulation. I usually pair it with a long sleeve T or, when it is below freezing, a light sweater. Never get too heated in it even when active. I wish I could find what the model is put I got it over 10 years ago so I've no clue anymore.
