For NY residents, the math would be as follow
Always speak with them first and tell them to waive that BS activation fee crap (I always get this in writing via email and/or text because I don't trust them). I have been with them for 20 years now, and I do this every time I upgrade a phone. I've always been able to get it taken off without any hassle, although I'm sure I am the exception as most people probably just pay it.
