There are two different models of this mug. One model has a slick, gray, teflon-like interior, which I believe you are referring to. Some have complained about the material on the inside chipping, which yes, I agree is dangerous.

The models I've bought on amazon that have this teflon-like material are Zojirushi SM-SD60BC and SM-SA60BA. I've owned and used them for almost a decade, water and coffee, and have never had any of the chipping issues people have mentioned. Like teflon pots and pans, you shouldn't use metal brushes to clean them. But I can understand the concern.

The linked deal is stainless steel on the inside, just like most travel mugs. The model number is SM-SHE60BZ. It looks identical on the outside, but it's not the same thing.

Great* thermal performance. My primary beef is that the silicone seals suck up taste very easily. Going from coffee to water pretty much requires a hot dishwasher cycle to evict the coffee flavor - no rinse and re-use. Also, the flow is fairly slow through the sip top.

*I filled it with nugget ice on a Thursday morning and left it in my pack over a weekend; there was still some ice in the bottle (along with the melt water) on Saturday night.

I've known this brand from my childhood. I know it is a good brand. I purchased several items from this brand at local Asian store. But original price $54 is too high. I searched up Amazon Japan and similar size product from the same brand is from 2200 yen to 3000 yen. Tariff is already impacting the price?

Agree to it being the best mug/thermos whatever.
  • Easy to clean pop the funnel out, the silicone seal you can get into all the nooks and crannies to keep it clean, I find others to be more restrictive.
  • Keeps thing hot (or cold) longer than any other brand I have had.
  • fits into cup holder slot
  • lockable lid (whilst lockable lids are far more common now, many locks are subpar)
  • Durable
  • Warranty

me either... not until the other thread about 5-6 weeks earlier this year for this same product.

during the pandemic there was a sale for these 20oz and i just jumped on it, a nice size upgrade from my decade old smaller oz unit in champangne metalliic... gorgeous. its interior is stainelss so I assumed the 20oz i jumped on, was also stainless....

i didnt even notice until reading said thread... grabbed the 20oz and eyed down the barrel and ugh, it was the coated one...

so, with the option of buying a orange one, i put in the order... hated to shell out for another 20oz, but i did.

Yes, I was referring to the exterior. I didn't expect the paint would chip despite very careful use, especial I bought in 2019 and COVID hit. I didn't take it out until mid 2022 and only taken it out twice a week for hybrid work schedule. I will keep this for trips and I just bought the aluminum color 30oz for in-office days.
