I just returned two of these. I had high hopes but this machine is unstable.
Primarily, it will black screen crash at high loads with the GPU. SO exiting a game, the optimus switch to intel will trigger a bluescreen. I've used both B16 (latest bios) as well as B15. Multiple re-installs.
It would crash on shaders as well.

Last straw was booting into Batocera (linux). I figure my problems were windows related and an eventual bios/driver fix would solve them. But same problem under Linux.

I ended up building a desktop PC w/ RX 9070XT and zero crashes.
Note this is the 2023 model with an open SO-DIMM slot, not the updated 2024 model (with soldered RAM)
It's an upgrade. Open slot means you can easily slot in a stick of ram to bump up the total ram to 32 or 48GB.

Careful, Asus stopped offering full warranties on open boxes, so get a extended warranty....

Could you please elaborate on it? is the open slot a downgrade?

Quite the opposite. You definitely want an open slot for RAM upgrade

I picked this up a while back, and while I've enjoyed it, it's been plagued with some moderately serious issues. I had to get the motherboard replaced (within warranty) due to a short on the board. I replaced the WiFi card, the Bluetooth still randomly go out and needs to be disabled and re-enabled in device manager. It will do random shut downs when I walk away from the computer. But generally, as a gaming laptop, I've been very pleased. It's played everything I've thrown at it, and as far as gaming laptops go, it is a nice balance between speed, thermal management, and slim profile.

This might be first time buying an open box laptop from best buy.
Does "Fair" condition mean its fine for general usage and gaming or will there be functional issues with thermals, fans, performance etc?
I am not really concerned with scratches or non-functional aspects of it.

wow that's concerning. do you think it was an issue with your particular laptop or is it something to do with this laptop model?

I've never seen a laptop with a GPU like this in anything other than 16". I've been passively looking. So they might be out there but I haven't come across one yet.

There are 4070s of in 14-14.5" laptops as well. Zephyrs g14 and Acer has some off the top of my head.

1080p on a 16" display?
That's less PPI than a $100 phone.
