I got one of these at a deep discount a couple years back and expected it to be mostly useless but it has turned out to be quite useful for us. In addition to being a reliable light-duty outlet wherever you need one (I got it thinking I'd use it for camping), it's a great backup power source for a gas tankless water heater! We lose power about 120 hours/year or so on average and in a typical outage we get several normal-duration hot showers out of a 4AH battery and still have juice to charge phones. So we are squeaky clean and well connected when throwing out all our food Smilie.

As someone else noted -- if carrying in a bag or pack, disconnect the battery from the inverter as it is pretty easy to accidentally switch on bopping around in a pack. In general I do not recommend storing any of the ryobi stuff with battery installed.

Yes, I'm aware we should get a generator, but that's a separate conversation.

I have one of these. The light works fine. The unit does have a tendency to heat up, depending on what you are plugging in. Also, if you throw it in your bag or car, the unit can easily turn on if you have the battery plugged in. These are not necessarily negatives, but more a heads up.

Good price, and just in time for the hurricane season. Having the light on there is especially useful in power outage situations.

DTO price is $45.

Ryobi is going to start dumping these...the new ones can charge the battery via USB-C, as well as fast charge other devices. I can't believe they ever released this version. FYI: Ryobi batteries are for high voltage applications...they actually don't last very long when charging high capacity electronics batteries like phones...4ah is still only 4ah.

about 3,000 mAh equivalent assuming 25% drain to power the inverter

They are tool only. No batteries come with them.

Whatever size you want to buy. Ryobi has many different sizes from 1.5AH to 12AH

I use this for my smoker so I don't need to run an extension cord. The best thing about it is that it doesn't turn off when it doesn't sense a current draw (I'm looking at you Milwaukee).

That is VERY true, but when you're using the unit's USB plugs, I'm pretty sure it runs on a DC-DC converter, I've never measured, but I do get a lot of charge time for flashlights & phones (My technique is to just have so many tool batteries sitting around charged that it doesn't matter). But yeah, like you correctly noted, if you use the inverter to power a phone charger, you're gonna see some nasty losses like that.
