If it helps you decide, Synology is moving to only allow/support their own brand of storage drives in their unit. Some models already do this.

I can't speak for Qnap but I actually have an older server made by Terramaster and I like the software better than Synology. I use mine for Plex and I use the Photosync app to backup pictures from my cell to my server. I have never really had an issue with it except once. I contacted support and they were super responsive and helped me out right away.

I posted in older Terramaster deal, (can't find link from phone).

I opted for TrueNAS installed on an external nvme to replace the included USB boot drive.

Hardware is good value, TM software version as of 3-4months ago not as full featured. I've used QNap for over 10-years and experimenting with TM and TrueNAS as my offsite DR and sync weekly

I wish they had this model for this price 6 months ago when I was looking for one. Good specs and fair price.

my current setup is I got 4-bay DAS that plugs into my MAIN PC in usb 3 slot (less than 99 dollars). I put in 4 14tb WD enterprise drives in them and can see my stuff in windows 11 as seperate drives. I use smart plug into DAS and say "alexa, turn on 4-bay", and in 15 seconds I can see the drives in my PC. I turn on DAS a few hours a month for backup/transfer ... and then turn off.

I do have 2 NAS's but it takes me about 5 minutes to start up, and only gets speeds of 105MB/s. My DAS gets 225MB/s.

I live alone! Smilie

Yeah this is a really good deal since it is the 32GB model. I edited my post to make sure it is known this is the 32GB model and not the 16GB model.

I was close to pulling the trigger on a Ugreen DXP4800 plus for a similar price. It only has 8gb ram, but that should be sufficient. However this has an i3 processor while Ugreen is a pentium processor. Anyone have any opinions comparing the 2 nas devices?

Can't speak for this one but I heard that they were gonna only allow there own branded hard drives and wasn't a fan. I bought the 2 bay UGREEN and it's been great. With that being said it does only have 8gb ram but there is an empty slot to add more.

I love my ugreen BUT there is so much more info on terramaster and synology when it comes to setting stuff up. With that being said I did manage to do everything I wanted.

App is great too, some reason most the time when I open the app it'll show the cpu is at 100% but pretty sure that's glitch cause a second later it's at 3-5% nevertheless scary

Like scarletmask stated, the terramaster has a better processor and more ram, but the ugreen has more port options. My biggest fear with terramaster is that everyone says the software is terrible.

I am great with computers but have never owned a nas before. I simply want to backup files, access files remotely and stream movies to various devices. There would likely be only 1 or 2 devices accessing at any given time.

For anyone considering between this and the Ugreen 4800 plus, below is a comparison of processors. They are much closer than I originally thought. Decided to pull the trigger on Ugreen as 8gb ram is enough for me and I can always upgrade.

I've been looking at this or the Max to install a different OS. were you not able to install the OS on an internal nvme?

Darn. Just got it on Amazon using an Amazon gift card. I don't want to keep the Amazon gift card by returning this. I'm also having second thoughts about this one and the Ugreen DXP4800 Plus. It looks like the Ugreen has a separate drive for the OS. With this, I might have to use one of the NVMe drives for the OS. And with the Ugreen, we can expand the RAM to 64 GB.
