I bought this camera last week. Mid to low range daylight video quality, terrible at night. Don't let the "sony starvis!" Marketing fool you, this cam performs like the budget ones from 7 years ago
Not real 4k
Project Farm dash cam review that includes this model.

Agreed. My 7 year old aukey has similar quality to this dashcam. i gifted to someone this dashcam because i didnt want to research or spend a lot. I was expecting far better image quality given how new and popular it is. I guess actually researching the various options out there would have been a better option. But meh.

What's the consensus on the mounts? Suction mounts do go bad and plastic suction in 100F summer heat would be the end of it…
Personally, one reason I bought this because of the suction mount. Easy to take down the camera and throw up the windshield shade in the summer. The suction on this camera is much stronger than the dash cam I replaced.

Yes but you have to hardwire it to a fuse. Hardwire kit available online. It will consume car battery power as expected.
Sad that few know anything about CarFi these days. Run wire, put inline fuse. Tada!

I'm really happy with the A119 mini 2. You're gonna value the 1440p 60fps more than 4K30fps. I also bought it in November for $89
What about this [amazon.com]? I was considering this but this deal is hot w/ Starvis 2

Anyone think this is worth it if you run it as a 2K dash cam?
Personally I would run the front at 1080p @ 60fps. Because higher framerate means less motion blur and a higher chance to read license plates especially at night. The rear on this camera can only do 1080p @ 30fps though, but I think that's okay for the rear. Just my 2cents.

Are there any dash cams which can be hardwired to record while parked but exclude certain locations using the GPS ? I want to record all the time (within battery limits) except when the car is at my home or at work. This should not consume the battery much since I would not stay more than an hour or so at the grocery store parking or a doctor's office.
Not to compare apples and oranges, but I have set my Tesla to not record when the location is detected as home. Looking for a similar functionality for my other vehicle.
TIA

There's not a single picture on the reviews from Amazon that shows a clear license plate. At day or night.

this sounded like a good idea and gave it a try today. but the 1080p/60fps footage is pretty poor and the fake 4k/30fps footage looks a lot better. at least with hevc encoding, which i prefer due to the smaller file size.

I have no idea how it all works with CAN bus these days but yeah. Find an always hot line and hide the wires for this.

It's probably better to use an old phone as a dashcam. Lots of hit and run, so you would need to be able to capture license plate or buy better dashcam.
