I did contact Amazon cs. They said they couldn't replace it with the classic but they let me keep the junk gourmet for free. Not bad but I'd rather just have the classic for $38. The gourmet feels like a $5 IKEA steak knife

I agree. It's so cheap feeling. All I was offered was a $10 gift card as compensation which I declined. I was not about to waste $38 on a useless knife.
