I had one of the models before this and you do need a boundary wire. If the wire isn't connected to the base it won't run.

You install the wire 10in from the edge I think. The better job you do the closer it cuts to the edge. Pretty much pull the wire then hammer a stake and repeat. You can also get a camera that does help it avoid obstacles.

I have since moved onto a gps robot mower, because it became a little too inconsistent and the bouncing made it miss spots. However for this price it's not too bad to randomly have to clean up a few spots.

It does go back to the base and recharge automatically by following the wire around the edge.

That would work, but it works best with an intelligent wire

If the backyard is fenced do you still need intelligent wire?

In that case dumb wire will suffice

Oh good deal, I bought the WR155 roughly 4 years ago for $500 and it's still going without a hitch. Cuts the lawn for roughly 10 months of the year due to being in the south.

I've been looking for a robo mower that uses GPS, and ideally one that I can hack/modify to expierment with the hyper-accurate GPS that requires a physical node installed on your property.
thank you?

This site kills me sometimes. I'm frequently saying "that's the dumbest thing I've ever seen....who in the heck would need such a blah blah blah....(3 seconds later, places order)."

In for two. Thanks!

Reviews are mixed but digging in and reading them on Amazon is a trip. One of them complains about this thing running over eggs and frogs. Some social genius dinged it two stars for that.

I have a half acre in the backyard.

Just watched the video about setting zones and marking them. It couldn't be easier. Thanks YouTube 👍

How well does this do with Gumballs and damp grass?
There is a sweet gum tree in my neighbors yard and when he empties his hot tub monthly the water pushes them to the just inside my perimeter fencing. Its not soft enough to sink in but it may need better tracks if i add weight.
