Both sets are similar and functionally about the same, but there are some differences.

CMMT45256 comes in a 2-drawer hard case, which is lighter and more compact, ideal for portability.

CMMT45306 features a 3-drawer Versastack box, part of a modular system for customizable storage, but it's heavier and larger.

Socket count is slightly different between the sets but probably nothing you will notice much.

This has come through way handier than I thought. I have it sitting on a bench in the garage and nine times out of then I don't grab my better tools, just use these because it is convenient and it works.

I just got one and it's pretty good. Easy to carry around and well organized.

Tempting. The newer style of ratchet sounds great! As long as it is as strong.

I have been planning to go to a pawn shop and buying the missing pieces, I probably have lost 15 over the past 2 decades since I got my set. I am guessing they charge about $1 per socket. so new ratchets and new sockets for $99 is not bad.

Without SAE this would be awesome who wants to carry around virtually obsolete sockets bare used anymore?

This is a bad set for someone wanting to build a kit for working on a car - the many SAE sockets are virtually useless for anything manufactured in the last 40 years. The metric sockets only go up to 14mm, which is too small for anything suspension-related. You couldn't even take a lug nut off with this set.

This box carried me and my beat up corolla through college 10 years ago. Wild it's basically the same price too.

Heavy is not a problem, you will rarely need to carry all 3 shelves when you are working but yes it's bulky.I used it today for several bolts, it's very handy, I just slide the drawer out, there is a tab that let's you remove drawers. I just take the drawer with me but I have one complain that the ratcheting part is very hard to atrach adapters or extenders. The little ball is way too stiff, and it's also hard to remove once you slide sockets in. Maybe needs some time to loosen up?

It's the same tolerance regardless of mixing the two

Don't need this at all, have several better sets. However, I have lots of Tstak stuff and I couldn't resist. Hopefully it is worth adding to one of the stacks.Edit: How sensitive do you have to be to downvote a comment like this? Grow up.
I bought for the same reason, connects to the Dewalt stuff supposedly

That's just...not true? The largest metric socket is 21mm. There's a pretty comprehensive set, although they are spread across 3 drive sizes: https://www.craftsman.com/cdn/sho...N_DDS1.pdf

SAE is also useful for a lot of jobs that doesn't involve working on passenger vehicles.

Search for tstak. That's fully compatible in all but color. Versastack will be hard to find.

Thanks so much, found this which will be cool to just toss the rest of the stuff I have like bolts, washers, etc.. I already have another from Husky which looks very similar, I will check if it can stack on top as well.

For people who have mixed TSTAK with Versastak, does it lock up 100% or is there a little more play between the two when combining?
The TSTAK and Versastak line up directly the same, I have been working with both for some time now and not had any problems. Dewalt also sells an adapter plate so that you can even mix and match Tough System pieces with the TSTAK and Versatak systems. Enjoy.😎
