Filters don't last long, are expensive, and taste like absolute butt when they go bad
Ive been using zero water filters for almost three years now. Here in southern California our water is perfectly safe to drink, but tastes horrible. Very heavy on minerals and chlorine. These filters do a great job removing all the bad taste. They also remove the minerals making it easy to keep my electric kettle clean from limescale. Each filter lasts a household of two bout 3-4 weeks.
If it only last for a month then the filter is doing its job. What you have to worry about is the water that is coming out your tap to make a filter go out in a month.

The filters last about 3 weeks each, we have 3 people that drink water from it. Even with that said, best water filter FOR THE PRICE on the market imo. If I didn't already have the smaller version of this, I'd be in but hopefully there is a filter sale soon. Just like the other comment eluded to, the fishy smell starts to happen once the filter goes bad. And it's atrocious.

What....

not saying it isn't possible, but zero water has been around for almost 25 years in my own experience. In that time, Brita, pur and others have tried to enter that market but have yet to ever have a product that competes well with this. to switch filter designs would be a big deal.

I do believe they have a different filter line, one that actually competes at the lower end of the "filter" spectrum that is mostly for taste improvement. the filters are not compatible, and they are meant to compete with the britas of the world.

Good idea!!! I need to get a water filter for the water that goes into my water filter. Probably going to get a cheaper whole house filter from Menards, because I save big money there.

Just find a cheap distiller. You make the purchase once and don't need to buy any filters.

0 TDS is not good for you as it even filters the minerals that are good for your body. Because of this, some R.O. filters have an optional "mineral" cartridge that you can add on. So, the filtered water that comes out (the 0 TDS) goes through the final mineral cartridge that adds about ~50 TDS of good minerals. Just an FYI in case anyone wasn't aware of that.

We use this not to drink but more so as an alternative to distilled water for refilling our humidifier to prevent white powder, the ultrasonic cleaner for nightguards, nose irrigator, sleep apnea machine, and watering plants that are picky with their water. Lots of other use cases! We tried a distiller but it just took too much energy and time.

A pinch of rock or sea salt will give you all the minerals you need raise the TDS and save you the cost of adding more consumables to your filtering.
