There should be some law that if you signed up to receive device credits , your plan pricing cannot go up or they pay the credits even if you leave. Last 2-3 months they gave out all these device "deals" and then jacked up the price on plans.

Agreed 100%. I did the iPhone deal and upgraded 4 lines and a week later they texted me that they are increasing price by $5 per line. Dick move by T-Mobile.

In person or call the Tmobile Costco line

If you do it in store, be sure that your local Costco sells Tmobile service. Not all of them do

Tmobile doesn't let you lock in the price anymore? I switched to US mobile (uses tmobile, Verizon, and/or att networks) and the old plans I'm still on haven't increased in price. Back then I think tmobile didn't increase either if you stayed on one plan.

Apologies in advance for my lack of information, this is a device permanently locked to TMobile and one has to pay the full cost of the phone upfront and then get monthly credits for next 24 months on the expensive TMobile plans. Is this understanding correct?
Unlock requirements is that the phone is actively used on T-Mobile for 40+ contiguous days...

and...

Device is fully paid off.

If you pay the device early, you forfeit remaining credits. That means, in order to get all 24 credits, your phone must stay locked on T-Mobile for 2 years.

They are not honoring their price lock guarantee, raising plans by $2 and $5 seemingly randomly.

The new price lock guarantee says that if they raise your rates, you can leave, and they will not charge you for the final month of service (which is probably a partial month, and since it's not prorated and there's no partial month refund, even if your final month was just 1 day of service, so you aren't likely to actually get 30 days of service free).

Thanks for the clarification. Follow up:
- So one pays $0 for the device + applicable taxes
- Then receive monthly credit as well for next 24 months on my phone plan?

Has this changed in the last couple years? Typically, if you paid off a device early, you still receive the credits as long as your service plan stays active. If you left Tmobile, you would lose those credits.

Well you get a monthly device payment charged and a monthly device credit to offset it. For example: Phone payment $10, Promo credit -$10.

Also, theres a $35 device connection charge (plus tax on that $35) in addition to paying all the sales tax on the full value of the phone, up front.

Unless you get the $35 DCC waived (Costco, etc)

It changed about a year ago?

I'd have to check Reddit for when that infamous thread was announced.

Terrible deal.. 24months stuck w Tmob for a phone you can get for $55 +tax/fees [$ 75ish ]] from Total wireless.. [with 1 mo unlimited.. unlocks after 2 mo]. Get a real phone if you are committing to this carrier!!! Yes, I've had 3 of these , they are ok and kids use them for games. Nothing compared to a 8gen1 or better phone

It's not a terrible deal. It's a good phone considering, and can't argue with trading in just about anything and getting it free. If you aren't going to jump on any promotion the next couple years, it's very much worthwhile. I do agree it's not worth blowing a promotion on otherwise though, when you can get this phone so cheap playing the prepaid game. I'd rather keep the powder dry than jumping on this.

You're better off just paying $120 for this phone from Total Wireless. That's what, $5 a month over 24 months? T-Mobile will lock you into 24 months paying $60/line, maybe $35/40 if you've got 5 lines.

You can pay $25/month at various different MVNOs for unlimited everything including Visible (Verizon network) or Metro by T-Mobile. You can even pay much less per line if you look at your info and notice that you're rarely using data? Just get shared pool plan somewhere like US Mobile.

Postpaid only made sense when they gave you $800/$1000 premium devices for free with bill credits, now it's not worth it.

You gotta be a real sucker to think a 2-year lock-in on this is a good deal.

Is this because of the upgrade or was it going to happen anyway? Which plan are you on? I'm on the legacy plan that is close to 20 years old. I don't want to jeopardize no price increase by this deal. So far I am still safe from the $5 bump.
