You haven't even seen reactionary prices, let alone what happens when shortages start.
Everything begins in a country impacted by these tariffs.
You aren't escaping this by singling out China, but clearly our entire economy revolves around even the smallest screw made there.
Moreover, even if you exclude all of these origin countries, where do you expect to get the labor to replace them?

Elements != Easystore (there are discussions online about elements being slower feel free to participate in those elsewhere I don't have an opinion as they seem more or less the same speed for my uses - but for me the big no no for Elements is there is no ability to turn off the sleep timer whilst keeping it external which is annoying when one uses it to stream media so at least for my uses elements is only good for backup. Also BB is the only place that sells easystore externals officially.)

I've done it for 12TB, 18TB, and I'll do it for the 20TBs soon too (I got 2x 20TB on the newegg deal with 2x WD SN770 SSDs included for $279 each).
Remember, you always want "breathing space" on your drives as well, meaning your goal is not to fill them until you run out of space. Also, when you factor in the space available after formatting (it's base 10 vs base 2 counting thing), for larger drives you should count on *approximately* losing 2TB of space. IOW, a 20TB drive is really 18TB, an 18TB is really 16TB, etc.

The goal of tariffs is to reshore/nearshore, and primarily change the behavior of a 100% malevolent enemy, i.e., china. I'd miss some of the cheap crap, but I'm good with total decoupling and letting china destroy itself. Sooner the better....

So are you saying all the other people in this thread giving examples of the differences are lying?
And unless you're serving media (or are an impatient AF user for the first copy/read command) the sleep timeout isn't really noticeable to the average user as it's usually something high enough that will only be triggered once during a use session. However, when serving media from external drives the spin down can cause issues since people have a habit of pausing their streaming (ala https://forums.plex.tv/t/must-hit...ive/917471 for a mac user experiencing mild frustration) Which then can screw with the viewing experience anywhere from a mild annoyance of hitting retry on up to having to go out and back into the player. This is why drives like this that can have sleep disabled via the drive are more sought after for us plex/kodi/other sharers despite workarounds like scheduled read/write executions existing. In other words, BB specific drives at the same price as other WD drives tend to get a bump in popularity and can't really be compared to those other drives for "is this a deal" questions (there are also *some* who value the increased longevity that no spin ups/downs provides but that's a whole other group of nuts separate from us streaming nuts
