These have been on clearance at Walmart for months now. Bought two boxes and they crinkle and fold at the waistline after only two wears.

95% - Viscose is a semi-synthetic fabric produced from cellulose, typically wood pulp, and is also known as rayon

Its a synthetic process, but the material has an organic source (wood pulp) and, critically, does not contribute to the microplastics problem like polyester does.
Viscose/rayon and cotton don't give off microplastics into the water supply, and are biodegradable (eventually.)
Tencel and modal use fewer harsh chemicals in production, but are in the same category.
Conversely, polyester, nylon, lycra, spandex, are all petroleum based, resist degradation, and create microplastics as they're worn and washed. Am not buying those any more.

+1 my experience as well. They're comfortable but the waistband sucks

Anybody able to compare these to Hanes modal blends? I usually look for modal and understand viscose is similar but maybe not as soft or durable.

I normally wear model Asian style trunks. I bought these cause Walmart was clearing them at $4. I also bought boxers which are harder to find the cheap in some form of bamboo fabric.

I would say it's a step below the quality of my modal ones or ecotex labeled. However, it's still dreamy compared to most cotton ones at this level.

When I say level, I mean brand / category. Because there are higher end brands that use better fabrics no matter the makeup of them.

good points about mircroplastics, but I say organic cotton is the way to go. viscose, especially low-cost ones like these, are most likely made with harsh chemicals, which means not great for the environment or the poor chumps in the factories making them, and the chemical residue will be rubbing on your jewels all day long. viscose is not very sweat/odor resistant either. only if the viscose is branded or certified as OEKO-TEX, TENCEL or EcoVero, I'd say look for better options, unless you're just concerned about the microplastics issue only and not too worried about personal health implications. then again, it's just friggin underwear. you can probably wear these for a few years without making much of an impact in any significant way besides your own awareness about it. I like the organic cotton option, weighing all the factors important to me, but I'm not trying to save the world either.
You both make good points, but eco alignment aside, I (and many others) find bamboo style fabrics a lot more desirable in terms of comfort to cotton.

Breathability, softness, stretch, etc. Comparing like quality/cost options I have found that any brand bamboo derived fabric beats out cotton. Many times lower grade rayon / modal alternatives feel nicer than their cotton competitors.

My personal opinion of coarse, but the above has led me to exclusively use those products for bedding and underwear over the past 10 years. My wife is also similarly impressed every time we switch a bedding item to bamboo. Summer = bamboo, winter = Jersey cotton (100% no inferior poliester blends).

I had the same issue and it is very uncomfortable especially for those with Dunlap's disease...

I really like these I wear them in the summer and winter. The fabric is thin and breathes very well. I wear them on trips flying and you can go two days with them on when traveling overnight.

I am particular about my clothing have tried cotton , modal , nylon, and viscose I like this the best. Anything polyester based makes me stink not sure why. This is different. I think they can make the fabric thinner than cotton underwear, and I sweat less in these and am very happy. Viscose realeases mousture instead of absorbing it like cotton will (cotton feels clammy if I sweat in it).

I buy 75% viscose 25% cotton blend tshirts from Netdraw. And I also buy the viscose socks from Hanes as well. Merino wool is better but hotter (I buy Merino 75% / 25% nylon so it doesn't fall apart) but you can wear it for days. I am not really going to wear underwear for days no matter what so love viscose from Hanes.

I have purchased every permutation of Hanes Underwear. These are GREAT for travel they don't take up much space. The briefs size is the smallest and is my go to for summer and packs better for travel. But these are a decent size to wear as well , especially in winter. There is a long size I just don't wear them at all.

I don't have hanes modal to compare to, but I normally wear Silkskins https://www.amazon.com/Terramar-M...B07HM715K8

These hanes have a good amount of stretch, but the material is not as shear and has a rougher texture - more like a t-shirt compared to Silkskins. The waste band is a bit rough and seems like it will crumple easily.

The waist bands on silkskins keeps changing so I can't give a direct comparison there. Overall I would say the band on these hanes sucks. Being so narrow, rough, and prone to rolling up, it digs into my skin at times.

The seam at the leg ends stretch well with the fabric so it doesn't dig in or serve as a point of constriction.

I have both and don't like the modal hanes and don't wear them. I think modal version which I wanted to try is thicker and doesn't breathe as much makes me sweat more. Viscose is sorta not super durable Modal would definitely outlast it.
My viscose underwear 1 year old looks like new. My viscose socks immediately pilled when I wore them but no holes yet after a year.

It seems like briefs would be the best option since there's no legs on them at all.
Yes, except my big thighs rub together and chafe badly (it's even worse when the crotch of the shorts / pants sit below my groin) and I find the long leg boxer briefs prevent that (as long as they don't ride up).
