They rebranded from Happy Belly and didnt bring the wheat saltines over with it. Those were one of the better tasting wheat saltines out there. These are like everyone else's.
I ordered two boxes of these along with one pack of Amazon Saver Crispy Oatmeal Cookies, and one box of Amazon Grocery Cheese Crackers (Original Flavor). I fully expected the Crispy Oatmeal cookies to be the worst of the bunch and was pleasantly shocked to find that they were the best of the bunch. I'm not a huge fan of oatmeal cookies. I'd prefer to eat iced oatmeal cookies, or soft oatmeal cookies with a mix-in (preferably chocolate chip, but I'm open to other flavors, and raisins. And for $1.29 plus tax it was the value steal as well.
Now I had expected the Amazon Saltines to be the best of the haul. However, was disappointed because there wasn't as munch salt and the crackers itself was too doughy and a bit chewy for lack of better terms. Maybe they would be better pared with peanut butter, cheese, or some sort of dip. I think that I will have to stick with the Nabisco Original Premium Saltine Crackers or try other store brands if I can't afford them.
The Amazon Grocery Cheese Crackers are there version of Cheez-It crackers. I wasn't expecting them to taste exactly like Cheez-It but were hoping that they would taste pleasant and they did not. The cracker again was a bit doughy and chewy, and it had some sort of weird aftertaste. At first thought it was because of something that I ate before, so I tried them again with a fresher palate and they tasted a little bit better. Most reviews said that they were too salty, but that wasn't my complaint as someone who eats way too much salt/sodium it was my least concern as far as taste is concerned. For $2.51 it was money that would have better been spent elsewhere. I would eat them and the saltines if I were starving but I would prefer not to. However, I am willing to try at least the Extra Toasty flavor of the Amazon Grocery Cheese Crackers. I love Extra Toasty Cheez-It and Amazon is the first attempt that I've seen to try to replicate them. I may also be willing to try the White Cheddar version but I am not expecting much.
For full disclosure, due to my limit access to food the main reason why I purchased all these items) I ate all of the products that I opened so far. I really wanted to throw again the cheese crackers a few hours after I first ate them but the very fresh reminder of starvation prompted me to try to finish them.
Also there was a 10% off discount if you bought 4 Amazon Grocery or Amazon Saver food products. I'm not sure of the exact terms, so your mileage may vary. In hindsight I would have just purchase either 4 packs of the Crispy Oatmeal Cookies, or tried at least one pack of the Amazon Saver Graham Crackers. They have two other cookie products but they weren't available to me specifically at the time. They currently have a Crunchy Chocolate Chip Cookie for $1.79 plus tax that I would order in lieu of these Saltine Crackers. And they also have their version of Ritz Crackers for $2.79 plus tax that I would love to try.
I would give the Saltines a thumps up for the price because it is a deal if you like the taste of them. But they are officially a thumps down to me because I cannot recommend them.
