While it may be better price compared other places, this seems still very much overpriced what it is. You can get Ubiquiti 2.5gbe switch which is a managed switch offering vlans, port mirroring and POE input as well for 49.99. that's a much better switch for the price than this one. You can also use that switch without controller as an unmanaged switch if you prefer to do so.

FYI for those not familiar with the Ubiquiti Flex Mini 2.5G, the PoE is input only. It doesn't output PoE.

Although I'm not familiar with this exact model, the pricing, metal housing, small size, reputable brand, and great seller... makes this an interesting snag at this price point.

EDIT:
The cons are also there. This product is a "unique SKU" with little info. closest matching product is TL-SG105S-M2, which also has very little reviews.
BUT, what's REALLY disappointing is the TP-link warranty program. general info on it his like finding a need on a haystack.. but after some deep diving, this product should be a 3 year warranty. --->> VS TRENDnet switches that have lifetime warranties.
the $40 price tag of this product is crazy good, but for $60, you can get an easy-to-find info like this product:

Do you need to be Ubiquiti ecosystem to use their managed switch functionalities or can it be thrown into any network like most brands? Tia

Can anyone advice me on what to do, i ditched tmobile home internet for optimum, no other internet provider serves my apartment in the kingwood area in texas, im into home automation and i want to install home assistant maybe on my windows laptop or maybe on a future raspberry pi which i haven't bought yet, optimum home internet does not provide static ip (which i believe is a requirement for home assistant, optimum offers a business internet plan but i but i don't feel the need for paying extra, i have read a little bit about pihole, duckdns among other stuffs but not sure if any of those thing will work for my setup, aany advice ? appreciated.

You will need to set up a dynamic dns for IP forwarding, like duck dns. There are lots of free ones available.

A raspberry Pi would be an option, I would suggest heading to the home automation on reddit.

if my router had a 2.5 Gb LAN port, I would buy this for $40. Its an unmanaged switch. There is nothing to hack into even if it is TP-Link. I use a TP-Link BE3600 router as an access point / ethernet switch only. I am not too worried about anyone hacking into it as everything is pretty much disabled including auto firmware update.

I've had 2 8-port tp-link switches fail after 2-3 years. I tried to warranty a tp-link kasa smart switch that failed within 1 year, and they wanted me to swap it with another working kasa switch to troubleshoot. Just plan to throw it away if it fails because the warranty is basically worthless.

No you don't need to have anything else and can be added to any network, similar to the TP Link one in this deal.
