Have a few in my garage. Work great for overhead storage. I would recommend to use lag bolts.

For the 2' x 8' config the extra parts look like:

P5 Vertical center support - upper x2
P6 Vertical center support - lower x2

For the 4' x 4' :

P7 Rack connection bracket x2

Connect the racks (4' x 4', 2' x 8'):

Lay two rack sections upside down on the floor. Assemble the rack sections (P1) together using M8 - 1.25 x 12 socket-head cap screws (F1) (2) and M8 - 1.25 Rectangular nuts (F4) (2).

Plus any extra screws and nuts.

You use the same foot and just attach the legs together, so if you do 2 racks or just a single nothing additonal gets attached to the studs.

you can cut down the legs and make it pretty short, I have a set that I cut the legs down to just to hold a single stack of bins, it hides behind my header without being visible.

Noob to garage storage here. Seems like a good entry point because of price. Seems like those rail systems for the plastic bins are overall a better system but can always add those later, and anything decent on amazon seems to be more (80-$120) even for a similar storage rack to what we see here

Couldn't you use the hardware that attaches to the arms on one side to attach to the next base instead? I'm not sure I'd go beyond two bases wide before putting another set of arms on. You might be able to continue this method to get two, two base wide pieces on one large continuous. This method would possibly cause them to fail with less weight though.

This thing is a sore eye in my garage. In truth, I find myself buying less and storing less. It is also a pain trying to get the stuff in the back since my racks are connected together to make the storage bigger. I will say this is a great deal. Just get a stackable bin and stack on top of each other. Easy and it doesn't block out the light.

Hello, handy folks!
Need advice! The ceiling of my garage has drywall mounted on resilient channels for sound isolation. Will this rack work?
  1. If I drill through the resilient channels to attach the rack's bolts directly into the studs, wouldn't that compromise the purpose of the resilient channels and the sound isolation they're meant to provide?
  2. Additionally, since the drywall is not flush with the studs (due to the gap created by the resilient channels), will the storage rack still be secure and stable when fastened?

If you buy this I'm going to save you an enormous amount of pain and say buy these screws and don't even try lags. I've put up two of these now and they're amazing, very sturdy and I've never once worried about the weight. Buy getting the required thick lag bolt into beams, all the way in, next to impossible even with pilot holes. These GRK screws have the same/better strength than the recommended minimum sized lags for this shelf

There really isn't a minimum height because you could connect the pieces at any height. If you do not cut them down though you will have pieces sticking out and you may snag something on them or someone could hit their head
