Zenbook is the better choice if you prioritize battery life and higher build quality.

Do you have an example of a 16GB laptop with these specs ( particularly intel Ultra 9 and OLED) that's $500-600? If so, I'll grab it in a second.

For the same price, you get 2x the RAM, and a BETTER CPU. Refurb sure but in comes with an extended warranty so who cares? It's no contest. Is the lack of a keypad going to justify trading away those specs? I don't think so...
But in case it does, then this makes more sense:

Take those savings and put it into a bigger SSD if you must. Although I'd argue that anyone needing to upgrade 512GB of storage would probably want to upgrade this 1TB too. U suffix Ultra 7 sure but Intel H suffix CPUs are notoriously thirsty. I guarantee you most people wouldn't notice the difference unless they were running CPU benchmarks all the time... The question then becomes is a higher resolution screen worth an additional 35% over the HP?

I get your point. Heck I would actually prefer a 14" and I don't care one bit about the number pad but I'm very very hesitant on getting a refurb not done by the manufacturer. So I'd have to definitely skip on that one.

I'll admit I have a heavy bias against machines that are both non-upgradable and also have less than 24GB DRAM in 2025. But with local AI exploding in use I just don't see how manufacturers can justify not spending literally an extra $15-30 material cost for more RAM for a machine costing significantly more than $500-600. It's even more insulting given how nice the screen on this laptop is. That screen is easily $100, even $150 more in material cost than perhaps a lower resolution or refresh rate display. The Core 9 is also jacking the cost sky high too. It's maybe only 5-10% faster than a Core 7, but Intel is charging significantly more for it. Ultimately it's a marketing ploy. Bigger numbers are better.
i've heard no tariffs on phones computers/laptops? and some other electronics

Soldered fine but 16gb rams in 2025 is not acceptable anymore.
