If you don't take Samsung's word on their Renewed Phones web site that they put in a new battery, there's a free app called Accu-Battery that will monitor several charges to 100% and compares the charged amount against the battery's rated capacity. If it's 100% of rated capacity, it's (functionally) new.

Buying used from the internet vs renewed from Samsung is very different. Renewed is like a new phone, 100% new battery, new IMEI, full Samsung 1-year warranty and eligible for their paid extension. So not even close to a regular "mint" on on the used market.

S21/22/23 will only get you 4 years worth of updates, the S24 will get you 7 years of updates. The S22 is widely regarded as the worst pick due to reduced battery capacity etc. Better pick S23 or S24 if possible.
Otherwise consider the S24 FE which can be found on sale with some pre-paid carriers at times.

You may be able to find a better deal on Swappa. If you can't find one right now, check after a day or two. Currently, there's brand new S24U (locked to Verizon) available for just $618. SD apparently blocks link to Swappa.

They lied to you. I asked this questions on every trade in I did in the past and they gave me the same answer as what you got, as well as the exact same Hyla mobile shipping address for trade in, which is obviously no Samsung.
You also have to wait 30 business days (which can be translated into about 6 weeks or more) to get your trade in process complete, which is out of your return window.
And then, they will ask you 2-3 days more on the last day to complete the trade in process.
This exact pattern happens on my last 3 trade in with Samsung.
I'll be ready for them when time comes. They do business in my state. I'll sue. It'll cost them more money to send lawyers than to settle with me. I won't ask for $300, though. For now my phone is stuck in KY due to a mechanical problem.

Most egregious thing was when my son traded in his Z Fold 3 and they rejected his trade in saying:
You sent us Z Fold 3 5G when in trade in option, you said you will send us Z Fold 3

Like there is no non-5G Z fold 3 ever sold in US and also there was not even an option to choose Z Fold 3 5G from trade in selection.

1 chat fixed it but this was pretty outrageous claim to reject the trade in. (All this time, my son was worried about 1 dead pixel on the screen for rejection reason)
I always have to fight for my last 3 trade ins. I'm done with Samsung trade ins

Seriously? Unbelievable. But not impossible, based on what I read. If there was a trade-in program that could do so, Samsung it is.

For those people who want to use their phones everywhere, you should know Samsung phones have limited 4G and 5G bands.Which means once you are outside of the continental United States, your Samsung phone won't work as a communication tool.It sucks. On the other hand, the Google Pixel phones are built to be the world phones with a full range of 4G and 5G bands.
it won't be like "out of the states,Samsung phone won't work as a communication tool." You could find working bands from local carriers while roaming

Samsung Galaxy S24 supports a wide range of 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G bands, including various LTE and 5G sub6 frequencies. Specifically, it supports 2G GSM bands, 3G UMTS bands, 4G LTE FDD and TDD bands, and 5G Sub6 FDD and TDD bands. For 4G LTE, it supports bands like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28, 30, 38, 39, 40, 41, 48, 66, 71, and 77. For 5G, it supports bands like N1, N2, N3, N5, N7, N8, N12, N20, N25, N28, N38, N40, N41, N77, N78, N79, and others.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
2G GSM: GSM850, GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900
3G UMTS: B1(2100), B2(1900), B5(850), B8(900)

4G LTE TDD: B34(2010), B38(2600), B39(1900), B40(2300), B41(2500)

Well, then. If I will pay 50% more than the Samsung's competitor, and receive a Samsung used versus a factory new from the competitor, I definitely want every band as many as the competition. If Google can offer that many bands, why can't Samsung? They call it "Scamsung" not for no reason.

Who's using 3G? Zimbabwe?

The US version doesn't have all these bands. Samsung selects some bands from the whole list for different regions. Why can't they include all the above listed bands for the US version phones?

For sure I won't be buying two Samsung phones: one for the US and one for the overseas. In fact, I bought Google Pixel phones because they always offer fuller bands than Samsung.

You have to ask yourself, what's more important in a phone? A nicer screen? Or, a fuller list of 4G and 5G bands? So you can have better call and data signals overseas?

2G and 3 G are pretty useless, mostly turned off in many countries already. But could be crucial to make calls in. Certain developing counties. The Samsung phones are pretty global when it comes to 4G. But the US and international versions differ quite a bit in regards to 5G. Which in some countries is not even built yet. So you will likely be very much connected, but nit at the fastest speeds while traveling. 4G will likely be available for the next 10+ years.
Gsm arena has good comparisons of the versions.

https://www.frequencycheck.com is great to check for your target country.

Got my 256 GB s24 in the mail this week and I'm very happy with it. I thought about just getting the 128 GB version for $319, but for under 400 bucks it's still a steal and still has a one year warranty since it's direct from Samsung. Now if there were just a way to move the speech to text button on the number pad or at least on the far fight of the navigation buttons. That IS very annoying.
