If you don't take Samsung's word on their Renewed Phones web site that they put in a new battery, there's a free app called Accu-Battery that will monitor several charges to 100% and compares the charged amount against the battery's rated capacity. If it's 100% of rated capacity, it's (functionally) new.

Buying used from the internet vs renewed from Samsung is very different. Renewed is like a new phone, 100% new battery, new IMEI, full Samsung 1-year warranty and eligible for their paid extension. So not even close to a regular "mint" on on the used market.

S21/22/23 will only get you 4 years worth of updates, the S24 will get you 7 years of updates. The S22 is widely regarded as the worst pick due to reduced battery capacity etc. Better pick S23 or S24 if possible.
Otherwise consider the S24 FE which can be found on sale with some pre-paid carriers at times.

I traded in 5+ devices to Samsung.com, and have received all my promotional values. For a couple of them, including the refurb S21 for $100 in Dec, I had to follow-up after 21 business days cause I didn't hear back. CS immediately approved of those trade-ins; I didn't have to use my video and photo proof. That said, all my trade-ins were in excellent condition, mostly harvested phones from the yearly Tracfone bundles.

My refurb S21 was basically new and would be good for flagship trade-in for another 2 years. So this refurb S22 for $150 is good for a phone to use for another 2 years then trade-in, but personally I'm going to wait until it hits $100 since I have the S21 already.

Finally, I don't have a HF account, Tracfone enabled the remove device functionality from the website. Now you can self-serve cleanup inactive devices again.
I have really good experiences with Samsung trade ins too. One time Fed Ex flat out lost it and they still gave me full credit (credit was $500 on a tablet I paid around $200 for a year prior).

Im hoping it's like the S21's from December. They restocked like once a week. I was trying to figure out what device to trade in.

I now remember I had dropped my S series (22ultra I think) at Walgreens for FedEx pick up. The tracking stopped and never continued. I called SS and they approved the trade in as the tracking had disappeared from radar without delivery. They never asked me for photos or anything, it was done in one call. On a side note, I had suspected the driver probably stole it as the address and size of the box was very telling. Now I am hearing from you, then I must say there is something about drivers doing it.

LOL my drop off was a Walgreens too, I suspected the staff. Tracking stopped right after the drop off confirmation.

Thanks for that. So based on that timeline, is half a year of software support worth the extra $50? hmmm

For those people who want to use their phones everywhere, you should know Samsung phones have limited 4G and 5G bands.

Which means once you are outside of the continental United States, your Samsung phone won't work as a communication tool.

It sucks. On the other hand, the Google Pixel phones are built to be the world phones with a full range of 4G and 5G bands.

I got an S21+ premium renewed from Amazon (which I believe is Samsung Refurb). I would be convinced the phone is brand new, including the battery.

However, these prices do seem a bit steep.

Samsung A14 is on the trade in list. Not sure if unlocked Tracfone is acceptable though 🤔.

Can't speak for Samsungs but every "premium renewed" iPhone I bought from Amazon have been returned immediate. Crap and mispresented, might as well bought used from backmarket.

Yes, acceptable. Have traded in locked phones, including TF in the past without issue. Just make sure model & condition is on par with their requirement.

That's odd. Guess it depends who refurbs it. I think samsung used to refurb it but that was 2+ years ago

My 3 yr old s21 ultra screen cracked 2 weeks ago and looking for a new phone. Any recommendations of specific phone out of this list who made the similar move? I am not hyped to get the latest but don't want to downgrade the experience but use phone for general purposes i. e. no gaming. Would have kept this s21 ultra for next few years. Thinking of getting screen replaced but that is costing $350 itself.
