Samsung has select Samsung Certified Re-Newed Unlocked Smartphones on sale from $269 after minimum $300 Trade-In Credit applied at time of purchase when you commit to trading in an eligible smartphone (please read the entire Trade-In Details section below for further details). Shipping is free.

If you don't take Samsung's word on their Renewed Phones web site that they put in a new battery, there's a free app called Accu-Battery that will monitor several charges to 100% and compares the charged amount against the battery's rated capacity. If it's 100% of rated capacity, it's (functionally) new.

Buying used from the internet vs renewed from Samsung is very different. Renewed is like a new phone, 100% new battery, new IMEI, full Samsung 1-year warranty and eligible for their paid extension. So not even close to a regular "mint" on on the used market.

S21/22/23 will only get you 4 years worth of updates, the S24 will get you 7 years of updates. The S22 is widely regarded as the worst pick due to reduced battery capacity etc. Better pick S23 or S24 if possible.
Otherwise consider the S24 FE which can be found on sale with some pre-paid carriers at times.

I traded in 5+ devices to Samsung.com, and have received all my promotional values. For a couple of them, including the refurb S21 for $100 in Dec, I had to follow-up after 21 business days cause I didn't hear back. CS immediately approved of those trade-ins; I didn't have to use my video and photo proof. That said, all my trade-ins were in excellent condition, mostly harvested phones from the yearly Tracfone bundles.

My refurb S21 was basically new and would be good for flagship trade-in for another 2 years. So this refurb S22 for $150 is good for a phone to use for another 2 years then trade-in, but personally I'm going to wait until it hits $100 since I have the S21 already.

Finally, I don't have a HF account, Tracfone enabled the remove device functionality from the website. Now you can self-serve cleanup inactive devices again.

Oh interesting, yeah I have often been on the browser only, crazy that it doesn't show up in the app! Good for people to know, unless it shows up somewhere else in the app. I haven't been in the app for these kinds of offers.

Samsung gives some wild trade-in values. For example: the Moto G Pure (2021) was $150 at most when new. But Samsung gives it a $300 trade-in value (with a $9 crossed out) toward a renewed S22. Sort of like a car dealer advertises "Any car, driven or towed in, gets $5000 trade-in (toward a new car that costs $60K or more)".
