If you don't take Samsung's word on their Renewed Phones web site that they put in a new battery, there's a free app called Accu-Battery that will monitor several charges to 100% and compares the charged amount against the battery's rated capacity. If it's 100% of rated capacity, it's (functionally) new.

Buying used from the internet vs renewed from Samsung is very different. Renewed is like a new phone, 100% new battery, new IMEI, full Samsung 1-year warranty and eligible for their paid extension. So not even close to a regular "mint" on on the used market.

S21/22/23 will only get you 4 years worth of updates, the S24 will get you 7 years of updates. The S22 is widely regarded as the worst pick due to reduced battery capacity etc. Better pick S23 or S24 if possible.
Otherwise consider the S24 FE which can be found on sale with some pre-paid carriers at times.

Kansas charges sales tax on groceries. You like that more?
I live in Kansas. State Sales tax on groceries were reduced over the last 2-3 years and MOSTLY eliminated this year. They still tax some "prepared" food items like bakery items, fried/roasted chicken, etc. This year they also eliminated income tax on Social Security payments, and reduced the income tax rates on lower income. Some other states don't charge sales tax on groceries but have very high income tax and property tax. They will get your money one way or another.

These prices are pretty bad. I got my S24U 512gb last August for less than this price with no trade in at all.

However, aside from that, I can vouch for samsung refurbished phones being quite a good product. I had a Note 20 ultra purchased from Amazon that was certified refurb, and the thing was flawless. New housing and new battery and full 1 year warranty.

Doesn't every state do that or are you just trolling?
Several states do not charge sales taxes on groceries. However, counties and cities have different rules, unless the state denies them the ability to do so.
There are always the exceptions though - like prepared / fast foods, aka ready to eat.

The US version doesn't have all these bands. Samsung selects some bands from the whole list for different regions. Why can't they include all the above listed bands for the US version phones? For sure I won't be buying two Samsung phones: one for the US and one for the overseas. In fact, I bought Google Pixel phones because they always offer fuller bands than Samsung. You have to ask yourself, what's more important in a phone? A nicer screen? Or, a fuller list of 4G and 5G bands? So you can have better call and data signals overseas?
I haven't kept up with the tech, but the carrier locked phones used to have different antennas to maximize network coverage.
Even just 2 moths ago, in the boondocks and back roads in IL, I had cell coverage(VZ locked), for over 2 hours, and my wife's new Iphone (ATT locked) had nothing.
From what I have read, unlocked phones have a "mid range" of antennas, meaning they try to be a one size fits all, for most use cases, but because of that, there are places (speaking specifically in the US) that you will not have service compared to a locked phone.

I always buy unlocked phones. The Google Pixel phones (and no A series) are my go to phones. I keep my phones as long as possible. My Pixel XL was bought in 2018. Still works like a top. (I don't use it anymore, but keep update all the apps.)

This is just not a good deal at least for the S24 Ultras.
I've been monitoring the refurbished price for those on Amazon and you can get BETTER prices on those WITHOUT a trade-in for the past 4 months (at least)

Anybody owns any of these S24 vs pixel 9a vs iPhone 16e which is better?
I'm gonna throw the OnePlus 13R into that mixed bag, as many websites will, and break it down for you:

Shared Attributes Across All Four Phones:
Display: All feature OLED or AMOLED panels with high refresh rates (120Hz...except iphone 16e) and HDR support.
Performance: Each phone is powered by a flagship or near-flagship chipset (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Tensor G4, A18, Snapdragon 8 Elite).
Camera: All have high-resolution primary cameras (50MP+), with varying levels of optical zoom and AI enhancements.
Battery & Charging: Each phone supports fast charging, with some offering wireless charging (wireless charging missing on 13R and iphone 16e).
Software Support: All provide long-term OS updates (Pixel 9a and Galaxy S24 promise 7 years, iPhone 16e has Apple's standard support (~6 year average), OnePlus 13R offers 4 years).

Unique Strengths / TLDR:
Galaxy S24 – If you value AI-powered features and real-time translation the most, get the Galaxy S24.
Pixel 9a – If you value camera software and computational photography the most, get the Pixel 9a.
iPhone 16e – If you value ecosystem integration and privacy-focused AI the most, get the iPhone 16e.
OnePlus 13R – If you value battery life and fast charging the most, get the OnePlus 13R.

Do not! i repeat, do not trust samsung trade in promos. you will get burned by them and have to pay the trade in promo out of your own pocket. i traded in two brand new condition google phones and they claimed my info wasn't wiped (which it was) and they said they didn't charge correctly, because they were old nexus phones where, when plugged in, you have to manually toggle between charging andndata transfer. their employees obviously could not comprehend that, so i was denied, even though both phones were in new condition. on top of that, i tried to file a chargeback with my bank and because of samsungs airtight disclaimers, there was nothing i could do. do as you wish but i wou,d not ever trust them with a trade in phone ever again. only way i will trust a trade in is in person only, at t-mobiles b&m store with an employee in front of me period!
Recently I did the trade-in for a Galaxy smartwatch (trade in any working smartwatch--mine was an ancient LG something) and some Galaxy Buds (trade in any earbuds--mine was a cheap pair of wired earbuds).

I got the advertised trade in credit for both. YMMV, I guess.
