If you don't take Samsung's word on their Renewed Phones web site that they put in a new battery, there's a free app called Accu-Battery that will monitor several charges to 100% and compares the charged amount against the battery's rated capacity. If it's 100% of rated capacity, it's (functionally) new.

Buying used from the internet vs renewed from Samsung is very different. Renewed is like a new phone, 100% new battery, new IMEI, full Samsung 1-year warranty and eligible for their paid extension. So not even close to a regular "mint" on on the used market.

S21/22/23 will only get you 4 years worth of updates, the S24 will get you 7 years of updates. The S22 is widely regarded as the worst pick due to reduced battery capacity etc. Better pick S23 or S24 if possible.
Otherwise consider the S24 FE which can be found on sale with some pre-paid carriers at times.

Unethical Pro Tip: Start a chat with an agent to process a return. They'll offer 10% back for you to keep it. Just got a $37 'refund' on the S24. Making my purchase be $332 before tax (I got the 256gb S24 base). Here's what the agent said:

If you keep the order instead of returning I can offer you $37 as a refund, will that be ok for you?

Got my 256 GB s24 in the mail this week and I'm very happy with it. I thought about just getting the 128 GB version for $319, but for under 400 bucks it's still a steal and still has a one year warranty since it's direct from Samsung. Now if there were just a way to move the speech to text button on the number pad or at least on the far fight of the navigation buttons. That IS very annoying.
If it's what I'm thinking you're talking about, you can move in the Keyboard Settings, search for 'Keyboard button on navigation bar' and you can change it's position to the opposite side. I've also found it by going into the keyboard settings and at the bottom there's the "looking for something else?" "Show button to hide keyboard" and it's in that.

it's not exactly getting rid of it, but it moves it to the right side.

Sharing my experience for anyone interested.

I took advantage of this, ordering the S22 through the program, trading in my wife's Galaxy A32 5G and only being charged $149 + taxes. After sending in our old device, we received an email saying our Galaxy A32 was not eligible for the trade-in, and that we'd be charged the $300 credit.

The A32 has a 5G and a non-5G version, and they clearly & mistakenly thought we sent in the latter. I contacted their customer support, who fortunately understood the problem right away and escalated my case. Today I received confirmation that I would not be charged the $300.

I didn't have to send my photo evidence of the correct model/product name, but I highly recommend everyone do so anyway to protect yourself in these types of mistakes on Samsung's end.

My s22ultra is asking up and Tmo wants 1300 for new one, but offering me $500 trade in, I might take that deal instead.
I was thinking get a cheaper phone but that's it, non of these make sense since it's $300 vs $500 from T-Mobile.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series is currently slated to receive two more major Android updates: Android 15 (One UI 7.0) and Android 16 (One UI 8.0). The first update (Android 15/One UI 7.0) is already being rolled out. The second update (Android 16/One UI 8.0) is expected to be released sometime in December 2025/January 2026, according to SamMobile. Additionally, the S22 series will continue to receive security patches for an additional year, bringing the total to five years of security updates.
To me, this makes the deal quite cold. Even the lowly Pixel 6a will get you the same updates.

hey guys, I have an old XR that i want to upgrade from. The trade in condition says that it should be free of cracks. My XR has no cracks but a blemish under the LCD in the top right corner, like a black dot from when I dropped it. Does it qualify as cracked or not cracked?

I recently picked up a straight talk iphone 13 for 199. Should I return that and use my XR as trade in for an S23?

California really is corrupt. Unfair how the state charges more taxes.
Kansas charges sales tax on groceries.

Do not! i repeat, do not trust samsung trade in promos. you will get burned by them and have to pay the trade in promo out of your own pocket. i traded in two brand new condition google phones and they claimed my info wasn't wiped (which it was) and they said they didn't charge correctly, because they were old nexus phones where, when plugged in, you have to manually toggle between charging andndata transfer. their employees obviously could not comprehend that, so i was denied, even though both phones were in new condition. on top of that, i tried to file a chargeback with my bank and because of samsungs airtight disclaimers, there was nothing i could do. do as you wish but i wou,d not ever trust them with a trade in phone ever again. only way i will trust a trade in is in person only, at t-mobiles b&m store with an employee in front of me period!

Do not buy S22 Ultra especially refurb or used. You never know if it will have the dreaded signal problem that many people are reporting (i found out after I started having the same issue) and carriers/samsung denies that it's a hardware issue. My phone is in pristine conditions not a scratch on screen after 3+ years of usage, it will refuse to maintain signal, and once drops the signal below certain threshold or whatever it is, it simply says No Signal or Searching for Signal or Emergency Only. It won't re-register itself until you turn airplane mode ON and then Off, then suddenly signal!? WHAT? Until it drops again.

So, definitely don't buy S22 Ultra especially at these prices.
