Why Asus would make an 8GB "Zenbook" model is beyond my understanding.

Many companies are going the non upgrade route to save costs. It's sad because this laptop has real potential, but Windows 11 is a demanding application and 8 GB in 2025 just doesn't work for most people.

8gb of non-upgradable RAM is a complete dealbreaker in what is otherwise spec'd as a good performance system

You could give this laptop to people and I bet a good chunk of them wouldn't even know it only has 8GB. You guys blow the RAM thing out of proportion all the time. Also, Windows isn't an application, it's an operating system.

Just think of it this way. Walmart sells tons of $300 laptops with 8GB and those are fine for their usage. This is the same price with much better build quality and an OLED panel. Seems fine to me.

Absolute befuddling decision for non-upgradeable 8GB RAM. Even 12GB is tolerable, 8GB is a non-starter for basically everything.

Warning about Best Buy open box. I bought the open box excellent of the 155h version with 16gb, 1tb for $460 last week. Just returned because it had a big dent/scuff on the corner where it looked like it was dropped and no original box. Should have been good/fair condition

Thought about this but then its within spitting distance of the old minipc I have, and it's slower than a steam deck.
You really are paying for the form factor here.
I'm not sure this is a slick deal.

I'm running a Surface laptop 3 w/ 8gb and it's perfectly fine for web surfing multiple Chrome tabs, streaming, and even nVidia Geforce Now for PoE2 smoothly. Not sure how much of an upgrade aside from a nicer OLED screen.

Most people notice their RAM usage hovering around 70–80% with systems that have 4 to 8 GB of memory, and they assume it's a sign of being close to full capacity and needing more. What they don't realize is that even if you upgrade to 32 GB, your system will still use a large portion of it. Modern operating systems are designed to utilize available RAM efficiently. Additionally, when your ZenBook runs out of RAM, it uses a feature called page filing (or virtual memory), which temporarily stores data on your solid-state drive (SSD). Fortunately, SSDs are much faster than the old hard disk drives (HDDs), so performance remains relatively smooth.

I run Windows, Linux and Mac all on the same pc, to me there are all different applications that serve different needs.

Chrome OS Flex, Linux side load.
I like $353 for an excellent shipped 14 OLED 16:10 500 nit screen laptop.
I don't use WIndows but I suspect Windows would be fine for a lot of people. The processor I suspect is super fast with 18MB of cache.

I am curious what you are running that 8 GB would not be enough.

These are from the time when MSFT was charging OEMs extra for a Windows license if memory was more than 8 GB. That said, this is a very nice laptop with a great screen, great keyboard, touchpad, lightweight etc. For light use, I personally would prefer it over some cheap 16GB budget machine.
