Best buy sells the newer version for $45.

This is the older (discontinued) version of this controller with the ALPS sticks, not the newer hall effect version by the same name. The box will have a label on the front lower right of the box saying if it has the hall effect sticks.

Best buy sells the newer version for $45.

I have this one. It's a great controller overall. I use it for emulators on my iPad. It's heavier than some other 3rd party controllers, which i prefer.

Hall effect uses magnetic fields instead of mechanical resistance to determine direction.
Mechanical resistance sticks are the ones that will drift over time as the resistance wears due to friction. Hall effect sticks should not encounter this drift after prolonged use like mechanical ones can.

I understand if you're buying it solely for the SNES design, but you can get a better controller from the same company for the same price, with Hall Effect sticks and triggers and supports both bluetooth and a dongle.

I have this older version have had it since 2018 and it still works perfectly. There is a beta firmware to make it work with the switch 2 that has been working great. What is weird is my newer 8bitdo controllers don't have the update yet like my first gen sn30 pro+ or my n30 pro2.

The thing people dont mention is that with hall effect, you lose the mechanical feel of the thumbstick. For me i feel less control.
