a 12r is exactly the phone i replaced.
was my daily driver.
untili got bored of it
i sold the 12r for ~330 (i think it was) and got this instead
believe me, if u r a "average" user , u will not notice any difference.
again depends on how/what u use phone for.
for me. not much difference, other than the price between 12r and this
idk where i could sell 12r for 330 i'm sure i paid something like that on a sd what 1+ years ago (we were probably in the same thread lol). fb marketplace usually doesnt work out for me (maybe bc i'm not in a big city?) and selling by mail means ebay will take like $100, and worse they can return for up to 6 months later using paypals policy afaik. where did you sell it?
anyways this edge seems a little smaller, i noticed a little choppiness here and there could be due to 8gb. for these reasons plus it's a slight hassle transferring pictures when switching phones, i prefer the 12r (one plus fanboy). main advantage would be 512gb>256 but it doesnt matter much to me i dont use a lot of storage.
Anyways I been messing with this phone a little each night since I was busy. It had a little problem accepting the Boost sim yday (for example, at one point it had 5G data, but would not make calls), but after some reboots and using the Boost activate website from PC for activating via the sim ICCID (or whatever) it came out ok.
Just used the unlock site now, flawless despite the FUD. Was scared for a second because it requires a foreign sim to trigger the unlock code ask, and my OP12R I remember is on a esim. Luckily i had some visible sims from who knows what laying in my drawer, and putting one of those in prompted the unlock prompt (they arent active sims or anything, so anything should work).
So 2 big steps down (phone activated+unlocked), the last step I'd like to pull off is activate visible over esim (that way I dont have to wait for a sim card in the mail). I plan to give to my niece on visible permanently so I will not use the boost month at all. I will update this post with how that part works out.
Aside, I been buying tech for my nieces (7 and about to turn 11) for yrs from SD. But I had gotten kind of down about it because they didnt seem to use it often. I gave them a couple of those A9 tablets for $20 deal, and I'd see them on the floor uncharged usually when i visited. As well as these two 1TB pristine Nintendo Switch OLEDs (given before the 2 came out) I got from my friend for either 100 for both or maybe 100 each I dont remember (he gave up video games and had like 5 switches for himself and doesnt care about money at all, unique guy to say the least), either way a steal, but they didnt honestly seem to care that much about those either. But, last time I visited I saw they were using the A9 (the other had gotten crunched), One of the Switchs was charging, and the older even seemed to be using an old Motorola phone i gave (they had one plus 9's, but iirc hers got busted) which she gave to me to attempt to "fix". so this very nice phone plus unlimited visible service, just as she hits the ages where she is taking care of a phone much better and can appreciate it more, will be a great gift. surely possible she will break it quickly being 11, but i still have a perfectly good n20 and n30 as backup. so i have gotten re-excited about giving them tech.
>unlocked Edge 2023+ on Boost
How am i supposed to activate the esim support (lets say I am trying to switch to visible using esim)??
All the instructions and website seems to only apply if you never activated before, and are trying to activate on boost for the first time with esim. But i'm already active on Boost with a physical sim so it's a dead end. The Boost esim activation website says it's a invalid sim # if I try (using the sim # already active).
https://www.boostmobile
Basically none of that link will work for the case of already using activated phone, no?
--I sold on FB MP. i dont do ebay or swappa or anthing like that. I have had good expierence w MP. Yes im in a relatively big city. yes i think i got lucky with the price of 330 for the 12r. i bought 12r from best buy for 220 (i think it was) (excellent condition).
anyways this edge seems a little smaller, i noticed a little choppiness here and there could be due to 8gb.
--been pretty smooth for me. i have had no issues. maybe i am not as critical as the average joe.
for these reasons plus it's a slight hassle transferring pictures when switching phones, i prefer the 12r (one plus fanboy). main advantage would be 512gb>256 but it doesnt matter much to me i dont use a lot of storage.
--if given choice, i would like to have 16gb or 12gb v 512 hard drive. but o well. there is actually a version , i think, of the edge 2023 plus that has 12gb and 256 256GB 12GB RAM edge 40 pro int version . over seas market only. that would be perfect for me and most people i think. i will probably never go past 100gb storage.

--good plan. do make a call or 2. send a text or 2. just to make sure it is fully activated/registered on boost network

only negative is the timely software updates from the very bad combo of boost + moto.
security patch i have is from may 1, 2025.
but from what i read, u need to get the company (visible) to provide a qr code. that u then scan on the moto. and that should be working
one again, i have no real hands on expierence

They haven't been able to make a better phone in 2 years?

i tried joining visible with esim options basically, Visible>how would you like to activate>esim>enter your imei
i enter it, comes back imei not valid or something. stone wall.
i'm assuming this phone isnt in whatever esim whitelists exist out there, even though it works fine. it was too early to the tech. the 12r is kind of similar, but it ended up working in that case.
you need some sort of esim option to already exist in in the phone sim card settings i think, and there doesnt seem to be any way to get that but to sign up for boost mobile initially with an esim. but it's too late.
and it would be unofficial even with boost, as i dont believe its on their esim whitelist. but the 12 r isnt on those esim white lists typically either and works fine with visible esim.
Just need something to nudge the esim option into existence in the settings, but boost are butts about it.
hoping one of the other guys who was talking about esim will see this and know something. most likely its a lost cause.
Edit: I guess if the IMEI wont pass visibles ESIM checker its a lost cause regardless even if I get esim to show up in the settings. Although I may be incorrect there. I cant remember if my 12R did or I used some other method.
Once you go esim you see it is a gamechanger, you can sign up for new phone plans in seconds without moving from your chair. As well as run multiple sims on the same phone although I dont do that.

same thing doesnt pass imei check.
doesn't pass imei check on verizon for me either. maybe i got slightly different model?
there was a longstanding urban legend that if you tried your imei on verizons checker, it would then force add it to visible database. you could force your phone in that way. it doesnt work for me right now though, if it ever did.
can you link the exact verizon imei checker you used? i'll try again with that one.
so basically as it stands this phone will be a pita to get on visible's network because even though 100% it will work fine it doesnt pass any of their imei checks, esim or physical sim.
theres a pretty easy workaround for any such device on visible, just say you have a verizon iphone se first gen and it wont ask you for an imei and will send a physical sim. thats what i've done.
however they do 3-5 day sim card shipping which is terrible, thought it was overnight.
however currently visible has unlimited for 19/month, since i'm already with them i refer myself for 20 more off on both accounts.
I just chatted with visible CS trying to get a esim QR code and got this, after he asked for IMEI
"Thank you for waiting. I'm sorry for this, but the system prompted that it is not able to set up eSIM for the phone. Some devices are built to only work with certain carriers. Even if we sell the same model you have, your phone won't work on our network if it was made to work only with specific carriers. For example, if the phone is originally from TMobile, even if it is unlocked, it will only work with GSM networks. It will not work with Visible or CDMA networks."
Of course its all nonsense, but if the system wont let it the system wont let it regardless of the phone capability. So its back to waiting for the snail mail physical sim

Ive been wondering this as well but I can't find any unlocking services info for the Stylus. Unlocking sites require an IMEI to check and reaching out to CS hasn't been helpful either.
