To reduce installation of games and other unwanted apps:
Set up without going on WiFi or inserting SIM card. Click on Skip for WiFi and Set up offline for the SIM card. Then Continue to set up offline.
Go to the App manager, click to view system apps. Then disable App cloud, Mobile Applicatons Manager.
After that you can enable WiFi, isert SIM card, activate.

If AOSP is given desktop mode by Google in the future, then I'm sure it'll show up in custom ROMs. As of today you should remain on Moto firmware. The battery is crazy long for me on custom, so I'm okay with giving up Gpay or whatever. Charged my phone 12hrs ago to 80%. Right now 59% with a little over 4hrs screen usage during that time. I won't need to recharge till Monday at this rate.
Basically I don't have any battery anxiety. I could go to a convention, concert, vlog or whatever and not think about charging. That's worth a lot to me.
Signing up on the $25 new customer plan with a different account would probably mean getting a t-mobile sim then?
The software on this model is better than my edge 2024. I got it for the upgraded storage and so far it's been a better experience.
Edit: Yeah I installed Lineage on an old motorola phone I bought on ebay. It's like a totally new phone experience! It's so incredibly fast and unobtrusive. I'd love that for my daily driver -but I need that desktop mode. Hopefully with installing a retail ROM, and possibly root'ing I can cut down on the crap. I don't use insurance or banking apps on my phone, those are the two red lines I wont cross for privacy reasons. So rooting might be ok in my situation.
On my current motorola edge 2022 I have a 'debloat' app I downloaded that let me remove a lot of crap, and while it said it removed the updater, it would still try to update. There's this long ADB process you must go through to remove the updater; I just put up with it.
I'm starting to find out that you either go all in or nothing. Sure I could remove google play from my current 2022 edge but there's still other crap I can't remove, would remove functionality, or is too much of a pain in the butt to get rid of.
Once the desktop mode goes mainstream and graphene picks it up, my next phone may very well be a pixel.

Used *#06# but tello wouldn't let me activate with the second imei (said it wasn't esim compatible) so I filled in my watch's esim. 60 seconds after I finished checkout I had a QR code, scanned it in and everything shows up just like my pixel (the two sims located under mobile network, choice of sims in the dialer etc).
Haven't done much more than make a call or two and fire up data, but so far everything looks good.
Anyway hopefully that works out so I don't need a donar esim imei in the future. Plus I don't actually know if using my 2023 edge plus's esim slot with a galaxy watch 7 imei is going to create problems down the road (especially since it already has a t-mobile esim in it currently). If anyone knows if that's an issue I'd appreciate the feedback.
