If it wasn't for heard inquiry, people would be opening new credit cards like buying groceries every day. I don't like it either but think it's necessary.

I get one of these every 6 months or so a Wells Fargo card with $150-200 if I spend $500 in the first 90 days and several other cards for case per year and my credit is still excellent. I just get the cash, pay off the card and close it. Usually I will do something like spend the $500 in one go get the bill at the end of the month and pay $300 then a few days later I get the $200 credit and the card is $0 balanced. Wait a couple weeks and close it. Aparantly it hasn't been hurting my credit at all but I own a house, have several car loans paid off ETC. I get especially happy whenever I screw over Wells Fargo because they screwed me over when I was in my 20's. I called got a credit card payoff amount wrote a check that day and sent it then I went moved locations and I didn't give them forwarding info because I was under the impression the account was paid off. Well several months later I went for a car loan and my credit was in the toilet and I had $2000 of charges due from Wells Fargo. They said I had $.08 in fees in the 3 days my check took to get there and then the next month I didn't make a payment so.... late fee on the 8 cents compounded for several months. I was young and dumb so I paid it but every chance I get I get my revenge on Wells Fargo. I have plans to one day maybe when the house is paid off to run up a Wells Fargo card to 15 or 20 grand and burn it! But the good thing about it all is at least I am not bitter
