I get what you're saying, but to clarify, it's not that your licenses didn't transfer, it's that PS4/5 are not backwards compatible with PS3 software. The licenses are still tied to your PSN account. There are some PS1 and PSP classics that you can claim on PS4/5 if you purchased them on PS3/PSP. There are also a few early PS4 games that supported cross-buy with their PS3 versions. But you're right; on PC you can still play games from all generations. That is if you're willing to spend the time needed to get them running properly (I speak from experience).

Edit: And going forward, future PS consoles will likely be backwards compatible with everything from PS4 and up, just as PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 games.

The games being included in the PS+ streaming catalog is not locking out old buyers. If you bought a digital title from the PS Store, and it can run on PS4 or PS5 (emphasis on this point), then you can download and play it without a subscription. I'm not subscribed to PS+ and yet I can download and play on PS5 Twisted Metal 2, which I bought on PS3 many years ago, and Resistance Retribution, which I bought way back on PSP, and Knack, which I bought on PS4. These titles are all included in their PS+ catalog and I can still play them without a subscription because PS5 can run them. However, I can't play Motorstorm Apocalypse, which I bought on PS3, because Sony did not engineer the PS4/5 to run PS3 software.

Microsoft on other hand invested in an emulation solution that allows users to install and play a some of the more popular games from their Xbox/360 library on their modern consoles, but Sony didn't make a similar investment. What Sony offers is merely a method to play some older titles via streaming, but it's not intended to grant access to our old PS3 libraries. This is evident from the fact that it includes games we may have never purchased.

I don't like it either, and I would obviously prefer to be able to play my PS3 library natively on PS4/5, but it is what it is. And at least when a classic game is added to the catalog that can be installed, they grant a license to users who already purchased it for PS3/PSP.

And while you're correct that we can't use PS VR2 to play games designed for PS VR because they utilize very different technologies, PS VR games are still fully playable on PS5; we just need to use the original headset and controllers.

Out of 39 purchased games only two made it to my PS5 which was Dino Crisis 1 and Journey.

PS4 launched in 2014 and I was still getting great use out of my PS3.

PS4 and PS5 can't run PS3 games. Therefore anyone who purchased PS3 games from the PS Store can't install them on PS4 or PS5. However, there are a small number of "classic" games originally released on PS3 that Sony has ported to PS4/5, and owners of the original versions are granted free licenses for these. The vast majority of PS4 and PS5 games will likely be playable on future PlayStation consoles. Sony has not locked users out from accessing any of their digital game licenses purchased from PS Store. This includes purchases made on discontinued systems, such as PS3, PSP and PS Vita. When it comes to your PlayStation digital library, if your PlayStation can run the software, you can download and play it. That's the information I'm sharing for those who want to be informed.

One part of this game is so freaking terrifying there's a mod to skip that part entirely.

We've played many Resident Evil games (well, husband plays and I watch him play), Dead Space series and the like, but this game…I'm telling you! We had to pause it and turn the lights on and take a little break.

This RE8 game is less scary than RE7. The only scary part is the house with the dolls.

RE8. Someone above said 7 was even more scary. Not sure I could handle that!
